Hi,
Noticed one leg of my flight this summer is selling out and I'm afraid to hold on and wait for a DING for fear the good flight times will be gone. Can I book just the departure leg of the flight and then hold on and wait if a DING pops up for my returning leg ? Does this cause problems ? I've always just booked round trip in one booking.
Thanks :cool1:

I had the same question when booking my flight. I was told that SW books only one ways technically. It is easier to change your flights if rates go down or if there are any dings for part of your flight if you book it this way. I would book now and hope for a ding :)

We always book one ways.

It is (as posted above )easier to make adjustments this way for Dings or just lower prices oe time changes.

How do you change your regular fare to a ding fare if you're lucky enough to get one?

Short way is Open 2 windows if using IE

1st window is your flight you have and go to cancel it (just not yet)

2nd book your ding right up to the point of payment.

When you cancel you 1st flight get the reimbersment # and quickly enter it in your Ding payment .(You have to do this fast thats why it's eaier if you have 2 windows open).

It will then tell you you still have a credit left to use within so many days (you can get that extended most of the time )or depending on type of original flight you may be able to get a refund to CC.

Aren't the internet flights non-refundable? How can you cancel it and get reimbursement? I don't get it. This sounds risky.

You don't get a reimbursement. You get a credit for future flight plans. SW is really one of the few airlines that does not charge you for any changes. We always book one ways, and the credit can accumulate. I feel like it's a little savings account. You do have only a year to use those credits, though.

When you say one ways, do you mean "Internet One Way" and you book 2 separate reservations?

yes, you would book two separate reservations. Each one would have it's own confirmation number. You can book any of the fares available as one way ~ it does not have to be the "internet one way" fare

it really is very easy to make changes to your reservation if a cheaper fare comes along. I have changed my outbound flight two seperate times due to a price decrease resulting in a $56 credit. I have actually managed to get the credit refunded also (it was an internet one way fare) because I did not change the itinerary ~ I selected the same flights I originally booked, only at the cheaper price. I did have to call the customer relations number to get it refunded though, but it was all very painless.

Can you only do this for the same flight time or can you even switch flight times or days with this method? Thank you so much for answering all of my crazy questions. I really appreciate it. Because of what you're telling me, I think I might go ahead and book $79 flights and maybe switch if it goes lower.

To get a refund it has to be the same flight just cheaper or a nonlimitation flight (the most expensive).
To get a Credit for future travel you can change anything day, time ,anything.

I would book the $79 you might find it a bit cheaper elsewhere but to get a direct for the times you want thats pretty cheap with the way things are.

I was flying out to see my son in CA, this past March. I booked my departure and my return was still not available. LOL! I was able to book my return on the DCL on the way to the Bahamas. SW makes it really easy to do.

Have a good time
