Booking Specific Sites

Brand spanking new to the Disboard, what a great place! My famliy and I have camped at Fort Wilderness 1/2 dozen times in the last couple years, and I usually book online. If I call to make my reservations, will they honestly take requests for sites? Is there a secret code or password that someone could share with me for future reference

They are just that, requests. Nothing guaranteed - no secret codes or handshakes.

Booking a specific site is near impossible, a specific loop is possible. If there is something you want to be near or away from, give them that info and you have a better chance of getting your request. Also be sure to let them know size of camping rig and tow vehicle, if you have one.

I defer to the above veterans of this board, but wanted to emphasize that you have a chance at getting a specific loop if that loop serves a desired need. If you read through the pages of this board, you will see those that have had experiences with asking to be near certain things, thus narrowing their options to giving you certain loops.

My husband and I have camped since we were children, so we feel very blessed that we can carry on the traditions with our kids. Ft. Wilderness is a magical place for our family, and we have enjoyed every stay. We will be there next month in fact , and look forward to a relaxed trip with time spent at the campground, and skipping the parks.

No. The fishing part is not just you.
I would never ever consider goin fishin in my everyday life. But, there is something about fishin at the Fort. I can't wait. I never catch anything, but I don't care. I love the process.
It is just so relaxing.
Who knew? Not me, but I am learning.

So is there no point even trying to request a few specific sites?

I am staying at the SSR before i stay at FW and was going to have a look at a few sites i liked and then ask to add a request for 3 or 4 sites to my reservation. Am i better just requesting a loop and leaving it at that?

Yes
Make your site selection known when you make your reservation so they can note it on your reservation. You are much better off requesting the things you like about the site/loop rather than the site/loop itself. For example, if you like the site because it is near a comfort station, then request that, if you like it because it is in the back of the loop and is quieter request that. The problem with asking for a specific site/loop is that the site assigners really don't know why you wanted that site/loop. If your request is not available they really don't know what you might find as a comparable site.

You do know the secret Cast Member handshake that identifies you as a DIS member and gets you special privledges like specific site requests being honored, right?
