Booking room & meals with AP - does everyone in party have to buy AP?

I am considering buying the AP to get the current room discounts. If I book the room and dining plan for my family of four, do we all have to buy the AP?

I've read on this board that only one person needs the AP, but on Mousesavers and Allears I've read about a Disney policy that requires all members of the party to have the same type of tickets (same # days, Park Hopper or not, etc). Anyone have experience with this?

TIA
Laura

Only 1 person has to have an AP, but all people in the same room have to have the same dining plan. Buy your park tickets seperate from your room package.

You're welcome! Have a great time on your trip!

Just one more thing - it has to be an adult AP. Disney closed the loophole of buying the cheaper kid's pass and getting the discounts.

Ha! I didn't know that! Thanks for the heads up!

can you please explain this to me? My daughter and I have an AP but hubby doesn't.. I figured we couldn't do the plan.. dining plan.. can you explain?

Sure. You book the room with the AP rate in your name (primary guest). You give them your hubby's and daughter's names as staying in the room as additional guests. You then ask to add whichever one of the dining plans you want. They'll add it and of course charge you for it. Do not add tickets to the package. Have your hubby buy tickets separately, either directly from Disney or through a discounter.

Well, yes and no...... Not sure exactly what you're asking but, you need 1 AP to get an AP rate for a room, and if everyone else in your party already has tickets, you do not need to buy them again.

I thought you had to buy park tickets to get the Dining Plan??? I didn't think you could buy it with just having AP's? :confused3

I have a ressie at GF for November did not purchase tickets (am an AP holder) and got the DP with the room.

Its a new program they put in place last year. If you book an AP discounted room, and pay for dining, its considered an AP package with dining, you have to pay it off within 45 days of arrival, and it is subject to package cancellation fees, but you don't have to buy tickets.
Its called an Annual Passholder room only package with dining plan.
