booking question (package)

we are thinking of booking a package for September to take advantage of the 6month no interest with the Disney Visa. Does a stay in a good neighbor hotel with park tickets count as a package? If I am also planning on using rewards points to pay for it, how do I do this so I still have 6months to pay the remainder on the package? Also, what is the cancellation on packages? We have a time share and if a last minute availability appears we would like to like to then do tickets only. Will we have issues if we wait to book? (Looking at sept 9-14 so it is up in the air if it will be Halloween or just prior.) Thanks!

I think if there's any chance you might cancel, you should probably stick with a room only reservation and tickets purchased separately. With room only, you only pay the first night and the remainder at check in. You can cancel or change without penalty 5 days before check in or 6 days if you book online.

For packages, you have to pay a $200 deposit upon booking and then have the balance paid 45 days out from arrival. if you cancel under 45 days, you lose that $200 deposit, unless it was like 1 day before check-in, then you would lose the entire amount paid.

I agree, if there is the possibility of a last minute change, DON'T do a package.
There are Good Neighbor hotels on the package list if you do book a package.
If you book hotel separate, many of the hotels use a major credit card to hold the reservation. Some do charge the first night. Cancellation of a room booked separate is easier to cancel.

We've booked packages in the past but now I generally do all the booking myself. By doing it myself I'm able to save, so for me this is what works best.

We usually book a Good Neighbor Hotel package and get the 0% interest on our Disney Visa. We were going to try the last week in September but our dates were already booked. In past years, we waited much later and there was plenty of availability. I'm bummed that we'll miss the Halloween party but, on the other hand, we'll be there three weeks sooner so that makes up for it. For the cancellation date, my confirmation says that I have until August 6th to cancel without penalty. Have fun! We'll be there the 7th-12th

I should add when I said the first night is charged when booking room only, I was thinking of disney resort hotels, as that is the policy. I don't have any experience with good neighbor packages.
