Booking Hotel Room Near Port?

Apparently Cape Canaveral is completely booked because of the shuttle launch on May 15th. Lucky me, I haven't booked our hotel room before the cruise so now I don't know where to stay. I'm looking for recommendations. I fly in the night before my cruise at 11:30 pm.

1. Should I stay near the airport and risk driving in the morning (I don't know how traffic will be with the shuttle and all.)

2. Should I book a hotel room NEAR Cape Canaveral (if so, WHERE? I don't know Florida, where would you recommend? What are the nearest cities, or a good place to find a map?)

3. Should I keep trying to find something esoteric in Cape Canaveral -- other than the popular Radisson or Ron Jon's -- what else is there, please?

4. Should I walk from MCO and eat extra desserts at Palo's?

Any and all recommendations are welcome.

TIA

there are some decent hotels in Titusville, Fl. It isn't to far from the port. We stayed there 2 yrs ago and it worked out fine.

I would try Melbourne it is just about 30 minutes south of the port and a larger city. Titusville is right where NASA is located. All the hotels may be booked also. IF your in Melbourne you will be coming from the opposite direction of all the Space Shuttle traffic. Hope that helps.

Tia, I love choice #4!!!! :rotfl:

I would stay at the airport hotel getting in that late. You mentioned driving, are you renting a car?

My first choice for transportation would be a private towncar service, no lines and you can go when you want.

My 2nd choice would be to take the shuttle from the airport. If you stay overnight, I believe you can arrange to have DCL take care of your luggage by tagging it and placing it outside your room. Then, you can be on the first shuttle out, that is if you want to get up that early.

I would stay at a hotel near MCO. We did this when our flight arrived late also..THey had a free shuttle pick us up. We used a town car service pick-up in the morning, as I have to be at the port bright and early... :sunny:
