Booking for President's Day Weekend

We're probably going to buy in to DVC soon (resale). So let's say we close on 11/1. We would probably want to travel the week of President's Day.

I looked at February 2011 availability now, and it's wide open. I also checked the thread looking at February 2010, and it looks like for 2/14-2/15 (President's Day weekend this year), every room category in every resort was blacked out.

So my question is, 3 months out from Feb 2011, how likely is it I could get a 1 BR for that week if I don't care what resort it is?

IMO, it's a little better than 50/50 (in your favor).

You may have to waitlist or move between resorts, but since you want a 1 bedroom, it should work out for you.

My best guess is that 1 bedrooms will be available at SSR. That's the largest DVC resort at WDW, and usually the last to book up.

As I hope you know, no one really knows what will be available until they call to book. People make changes all the time. Waitlists work (not always, though).

i just booked a 1 br at okw yesterday [friday 8/13] for feb 13 - feb 18. we have always booked okw for that week as our get out of the snow trip - we try our best to use the 7 month window when booking - and we have never been shut out.

so why not try to book where you want for 2011 at your 7 month window, waitlist if you have to, and change/cancel more than 31 days before your travel date?

How did you check availability for Feb? The only way to do that is to call Member Services and if you aren't a member, you can't do that. That thread on the other board is only good to get a hint of what is NOT available, not what IS available.

Thanks for all the replies everyone - and the way I checked is as you suspected, which is the thread here. I'm not a DVC member yet' (haven't even made an offer to anybody yet) so I can't call into member services myself.

If last year's thread is a valid indicator, then the week following President'd Day should be doable, but just curious when they would really get maxed out - does that happen now, at 3 months, not until a couple weeks before, etc.

And other than wanting a 1 BR, we would not be picky about choice of resort or view. I'm certainly not expecting we would have wide choices at that point - even if we got the very last 1 BR at any resort, that would work for me.

And if it turns out we can't book it by the time we close on our membership, well, c'est la vie. We could always do a summer trip if it's maxed out in Feb.

That thread isn't a valid indicator of anything other than what might not be available (and even that can change in a minute), never what is available. You only get a few DVC members on the DIS posting here (and not all DIS members post on that thread), so there are thousands of other members who don't even read the DIS. Any holiday time gets booked up early. So three months out might not be possible.

Just a helpful hint, Presidents week is in my opinion the worst week to ever be at Disney. We were there this year at that time and most of our days were spent standing in lines longer than we have ever seen. Fast passes were dispensed for the day by 0930 to 1000 and it was freezing as soon as the sun set. If this is the only time you can travel, even a bad day at Disney is better than, a good day at work.

We just booked Fri-Mon of President's Day weekend this morning and though we'll have to move for our last night, we had no trouble. We got a studio, not one bedroom, and were kind of set on BLT, since we're brand new members (as of about 9 days ago), and really wanted to stay there on our first trip. But one bedrooms seemed to be scarce already. We were toying with the idea of my sis-in-law and kids coming, and would need to book that if they decide they are able, but there wasn't much left. If we booked now, we'd have gotten something, but it seemed like we'd have trouble if we waited too much longer.

We purchased a resale last fall and it took forever to close. We were not able to book until the middle of January. We were going President's week. We wre able to get a 2 bedroom for 6 nights and a 1 bedroom for 2 nights. This ws at Saratoga Springs. The only days we could not get was Sunday and Monday, the day before and President's day itself.
