hope this question doesn't sound stupid but how do you know when you can book your DVC holiday . I know you can book 11 months out from your departure date but do they take it right to the day or the month or......... is there something within the DVC membership site that gives you a date when you can book but punching in your dep. date.

I think they do it based on month, and they don't really take into account that different months have different numbers of days.

For example, let's say you want to book a room at your home resort where your check-out day will be January 31. I think that they disregard the fact that February doesn't have 31 days. As a result, I think the earliest day that you could book the room would be Feb. 28 - as long as it's not a leap year and as long as Member Services is open on Feb. 28.

so basically if our check-out date was say July 20th we wouldn't be able to book until August, 20th ?

If your stay will be the nites of March 9-14, the entire stay may be reserved tomorrow - since the checkout day would be March 15.

For both the 11 and 7 month priorities, the day you can call is based on the checkout date.

For day-by-day reservations, you can call 11/7 months from the date you'd checkout if each day was a separate reservation. (For the March 9-14 reservation- the first night could have been reserved on August 10 - for non-home reservations and April 10 using the 11 month priority.)

Yes, if your check-out date will be July 20th we would be able to book on August, 20th at your home resort.

Get Caskbill's DVC planner software and it will give you the exact booking window dates, adjusted for weekends, holidays, etc. when MS is closed.

Just click on the link on Bill's signature. Free download, and very helpful with questions like that.

It is an excellent program that our fellow DISer put together and makes available free of charge. It allows you to plan vacations with various scenarios and then, as JimMIA indicates, gives you the exact dates to phone MS for 11 month, 7 month or day-by-day reservations.
