booking Delta online - seat assignments?

I usually fly Continental but am looking for airfare to Barcelona this October for a Mediterranean cruise (non-Disney ) and want to check all options. Delta looks good right now and I'm wondering if you book online if you can choose your seats at the time of booking like you can with Continental. I can't tell without going farther into the booking process than I want.

Yes, you can pick your seats. I have always been able to pick my seats, and just did so when I book in December.

Yes you can pick your seats when you are booking. Once they are booked you can always change them on the website if there are seats available.

If you fly a lot you probably already know this, but just in case (and if someone else on the board hasn't been to the website yet), the seatguru website shows which seats are the "best" seats on each plane to help you choose the good ones:

We flew Delta last summer. The ability to choose seats online is great. One warning, though: if Delta changes anything (flight time, flight number, aircraft type, etc.) you will lose your seat assignment. Unfortunately, you cannot get them back online.

I had to call Delta three times before our trip to reassign the seats. We always got the same seats, but YMMV.

It is also worth noting that even though I had selected to receive email updates when flights changed, this NEVER happened. My brother had signed up for the same service. When he arrived at the airport Delta told him that the flight left two hours early and that they had contacted him (they had not). IOW, stay on top of your Delta reservations.

Thanks for the warning, Mike. I have had Continental change equipment on me and reassign my seats without notifying me. But I believe I could still reselect seats online.

We have about decided to book with Delta for this trip. I will definitely stay on top of my ressies. No doubt booking this far out there will be a change or two (or ten) before we actually get on the plane.
