I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me about this process...is it a royal pain to do? How do they go about it? Do you have the same booking #/reservation # for each day or is it all confusing and you get a bunch of different ones? Are there any disadvantages to doing this??

Thanks in adavnce!

If you are booking during a very popular DVC time and are booking a hard to get unit like a GV, you can call the first day of available check out date and make a ressie for that day. At that time, you tell the CM that you are planning to book through XX(your end date), and they will note that in the ressie. Then each day as you call back, you use that reservation number, and they add to it. You might have to ask for them to be linked if you get an inexperienced MS person, but we have never had a problem when we have done it. If you are uncertain that what you are looking for needs a day by day ressie, just call the first day and ask how it looks. If it is a busy season or week, they will tell you, and you can call daily. If there is plenty of availablility, you can just wait until 11 months from your check out day to finish the ressie.

I know some do this, and that may be fine for them. But I consider it a huge waste of my time and MS resources. Its just a vacation and not worth it for us.

There are occasions where dates aren't at all flexible and day to day booking is necessary. Oddly, the first I ever heard of this system of booking a reservation was suggested to me by member services. I questioned the CM about the appropriateness of doing that and she responded that it's done all the time-no problem. I guess that's why the call it member services.

Thanks for the info! We always go in late Sept - early Oct. I guess I'll just feel it out when I go to book it! :) Thanks again!

Yes this is a pain in the neck but the process is well thought out and the fairest method. It gives everyone an equal opportunity for dates. Otherwise an individual with a smaller allotment of points would be at a disadvantage.

If it wasn't based upon checkout date, a person with a large number of points could book the dates well in advance before the smaller guy even got a chance. The person with the large allotment then can cancel the dates he really doesn't want and keep the dates that he does want. The smaller guy never got a chance at those dates.

Basing it on checkout date is the fairest but forces day by day reservations.

Live with it!!

I don't think you will need to book day by day for the end of September/early October unless you are looking for a GV. The F&W wont have started then, and at any rate, the 11 month window booking at 11 months from the checkout day will be fine.

JimC, I couldn't agree more. I don't quite get it that people have to have certain dates. A little flexibility goes a long way. School breaks? Who wants to go then anyway? Take the kids out of school for a few days. Go off season and enjoy WDW instead of fighting the crowds. I am also of the group that won't be wastying my time with day by day ressies.

Some of us like to be there for New Years Eve, and that requires day by day booking.

Some employed people must choose their vacation time a year or more ahead and in the order of seniority. They work in an industry where vacation is not "whenever you feel like it". I worked more than 30 years in such a place and occasionally saw grown men cry when they realized they would not be able to get a summer vacation. It happens. (FWIW, it was a very good place to work and I'm happy to have had the priviledge).

Not everyone prioritizes a Disney vacation over a child's school schedule.

Lucky you if you can be flexible with vacation dates and do not care at which resort you stay.

I am fortunate enough to be somewhat flexible now, but I WANT to go in early December and stay in either a standard view room or a Boardwalk view room at the BWV (my home resort). I don't consider day by day booking to be a waste of time because it means I do not have to worry about a waitlist coming through. IMHO, worrying about a waitlist or having to change rooms in the middle of my stay is a HUGE waste of my time. I wouldn't book day by day for any other time or any other room type.

Best wishes -

We invited friends with us for HH 11 months from this week. I need a studio for them and called MS and they told me to call every day. 2 bedroom for us....I was going to book that all at once but I figured if I am calling every day, I may as well book both rooms.

I will admit it is quite a pain, however, with only a few amount of studios, do we have any other choice?
