Still doing my homework before purchasing. How difficult is it to book at the 7 month mark for HHI, VB, GCV and Aulani? We would most likely go during the summer at least for the next 7 years. Probably a one bedroom. Thanks!!

GCV can be hard to book at 7 months at any time of the year but 1 bedrooms are the last to go.

The higher season (meaning harder to book) at VB and HHI is the summer season.

I have heard of people trying and struggling to book their exact dates/category at Auluni in June.

If you want GCV regularly than you should buy there. If you want any of the larger units regularly at the beach resorts in the summer than you should buy at the one you really want. If you just want to stay sometime in the summer and are willing to take any size rooms at any point in the summer you should see something.

Speaking only of HHI...

Summer = PEAK season (June-August)
...AND there are only (21) 1BR's in the entire resort.

Those two facts make it very difficult to snag a full week in a 1BR at HHI in the summer:beach:.

So true! Also at spring break, it is pretty hard. We bought at HHI to enjoy our times!

We always work to book our studio right at the 11 month mark. If you snooze just a little bit they all disappear.

I booked HHI 1Br in October at exactly 7 months. Decided a month later to ad a night and the wait list never came through.

The hardest time to get for Aulani is in June. All of us DVCers want to book the cheapest season when the kids are out of school.

I wouldn't be surprised if Christmas week is difficult to get at most of the resorts you listed.

In 2012 I booked a 1 br at exactly 7 months at 9 am for HHI in july. It was the hardest I have ever had to work at 7 months. The first 3 days I called - nothing. Finally I got the reservation. After that I wanted to buy a HHI contract. Loved the vacation.

I booked aulani at 7 months exactly for a studio for aug. I did not have a choice of views and took ocean view which was all that was available for my whole stay.

I contrast, this summer I decided last minute to go to vero in August (less than 2 months out) as we had a change in plans. I got a garden view inn room. That was my only choice for all my dates and I paid a member cash rate for one of the nights - and felt pretty lucky. I have been checking the website hoping to get ocean view and all the larger units are booked solid, but inn rooms come up.

So usually at 7 months exactly you can get what you want but should expect to be flexible on room size, view or dates. HH I would say you can't count on without a high degree of flexibility and diligence in making the reservation.

Problem with HHI is that it is not a year round destination weather wise if you want warm weather. June thru Sept. are safe, but the rest of the year is a crap shoot. So summer is the peak time and very hard to get at 7 months. That is why we own there.

I recall reading that the HHI resort is primarily (like 90%) dedicated 2br units. The 1br and studio units are lockoffs. So they have up to 21 1br and 21studio units available. Unless they sell the lockoff as a 2br unit, which then reduces the inventory.

Correct...76 dedicated 2BR's and 5 Grand villas, in addition to the 21 2BR lockoffs make up HHI. There are 5 of the lockoffs under the grand villas. The rest are located in the main lodge (bldgs 11&12?) which is the only building with an elevator. I believe that dedicated vs. lock off is NOT a booking category because the only HA 2BR's are in the main lodge. Therefore, if you book a 2BR, you are most likely to get a dedicated. I believe you can request a lockoff but it's not guaranteed, unless it's needed for accessibility reasons. Besides, taking a 2BR lockoff deprives folks from a studio and a 1BR:)

HHI is a relatively small resort and can be very difficult to get during the key summer months, but is doable if you make an effort to grab a 2 bedroom reservation right when the 7 month window opens. Don't be afraid to use wishlists during the first few days of the reservation window.
