We are looking to book a trip to Aulani at 7 month booking window. But if we’re unable to get the room needed and want we’ve decided to just go to Disney World. Which we can book at 11 month booking window.

So if I book at 11 months at our home resort can I then try at 7 months at Aulani to get room needed for that trip?

Any and all advice appreciated.

Yes, that sounds like a solid plan. Book your WDW home resort at 11 months for those trip dates. Wait 4 months then see what is open at Aulani. Let fate decide where you are going 😂

No this is not possible. You can modify to any WDW resort Vero or Hilton head.

You cannot modify to VGC, VDH or Aulani from an east coast property.

CA properties can only be modified to those two resorts and Aulani has to stay at Aulani.

You would need to cancel the trip and book it separately

Would calling Member Services help at all here? Even though you’d lose an hour, would they at least be able to switch the booking without the risk of fully cancelling before making AUL reservation?

They might be, but I believe they end up using the same system that we do.

Yeah, totally do that! Book your Disney World trip now to secure your dates, then try for Aulani at 7 months. Worst case, you've got a Disney trip locked in. Best case, you snag your dream Aulani room and cancel Disney

As noted above, changing a WDW DVC reservation to Aulani cannot be done using the modification section in the DVC website, and thus you cannot just switch the points to an Aulani reservation while retaining your WDW reservation until the switch is confirmed. If you intend to use any points already in the WDW reservation, you would need to cancel the WDW reservation first and then reserve Aulani, and during that attempted switch time you could possibly end up not being able to get the Aulani reservation you want, and then also discover you cannot get back the WDW reservation you had.

My understanding is that calling MS does not change the problem, as it would also need to first cancel the one reservation before making the new one. Nevertheless, you could contact MS to to see if anything has changed.

I don’t understand this from a contract perspective. Maybe I missed it. Does it explain how certain properties do not work with the modify system at 7 months? Or is this just an IT glitch?

I believe it’s done because you are modifying to something so different..meaning west coast vs East cost.

So, it’s been done in purpose and is not a glitch.

I agree I believe it to be intentional as well. It’s not usual for someone to fly 3,000 plus miles to go from WDW to DL or AUL if something opens at 7 months.

As a backup plan SSR probably is available if AUL doesn’t have availability.

We're here discussing modifying at the 7 month mark, but remember that if you were to modify just 3 days out, it's exactly the same (pending availability of course). Unless you can non-rev or are filthy rich in $/airline points, it's near impossible to call a last minute audible and switch between HI, CA, and FL/SC.

The modification restrictions to the same geographical area makes logical sense to me.

Oh that's interesting and didn't realize that restriction. I'm in California with Aulani as my home resort, so flying to Orlando doesn't take that much longer compared to flying to Aulani, so me booking at Aulani at 11months as a placeholder and then possibly changing to WDW at 7months depending on availability would not be "unusual" for me given that I'm kind of in the middle of both, but that's just for my own situation. Good to know about that restriction ahead of time then.

If you’re able to get *something* at 11 months that’s a good reason to just book it. We are Aulani owners…wish I had a friend who had all of the contracts I don’t have so we could book for each other at our desired 11month locations.

There are a lot of room categories at Aulani so fingers crossed something is open for you when you were hoping to go!

I want to add during the booking process the room is "held" for you.

So you can hold the room, cancel the prior reservation, then finish booking.

I have done it before when moving something. It might have changed but it's how it has worked before.

It's why at 8:00:01 the rooms can be full. It holds the room for you during your data entry and point selection process.

I have changed a Caribbean cruise to Alaska cruise 11 days out.

Weird it can't just be changed but good to know I wouldn't even think it couldn't be.
