My home resort is Old Key West (11month window)
we want to stay at Boardwalk (7 month window )
I was told to book Old Key West at the 11th month window then change reservation to Boardwalk at the 7 month window. This way at least I do have a room. My question is how easy is it to go online and change the resort and change the points etc since we will be barrowing points. Is it real complicated? Or will it be smooth and easy? Thanks

The on-line booking system will not allow modifications. To do it on-line yourself, you would need to cancel and rebook subject to availability. If you call MS, they can modify the reservation to change resorts without needing to cancel the reservation first.

I was told by DVC management that MS can not hold inventory while making a change, has that changed in the last year?

Don't know if they were actually holding inventory, but they could change the resort on the reservation without generating a new reservation number. It's been a while since I've called to modify a reservation, so it's possible that they may no longer be able to modify a reservation in this manner.

I also was told this, but they also said they were looking at changing this so a member would not lose their original reservation if the new reservation falls through while they are going through the process. I would love to know if anyone has had recent experience with this.

I was about to post this same question. My home is AKL, so it may not be a problem, but I would rather not risk canceling. I would also rather do it online at 8am rather than on the phone at 9am, since I'd like to get BLT at a relatively busy time (the day F&W ends).

Can I do it on line using two browser windows? Search in one window. If I find something, open other window to cancel, then switch back to the first window? If not, is there a recommended method to check availability, cancel old, search for new, and book as fast as possible?

I have been able to do something similar to this 2 times. I logged into my sisters account (same membership and with her permission) on one pc. Then I logged into my own account on a different pc (Yes, you could probably just switch browser windows, but I was to nervous to be toggling back and forth). I grabbed the new reservation on my logged in account and then I had a few minutes to complete the reservation. I then cancelled the old reservation using my sister's account. I refreshed the window on my account and the points were there immediately available to use. I was nervous the whole time, but it did work. MS has told me previously (last year) on the phone that when they book the new reservation and cancel an old one they can possibly lose both of them. I have read elsewhere on the boards that a supervisor has the capability to do this without losing them both, so if you do call you might want to ask for a supervisor to help. You might be fine anyway even if you lost both reservations because AKV is so large you might be able to rebook the original if you had to. Good luck.

When are you going and what size villa are you after? It may make sense NOT to book OKW at 11 months and just go for BWV at 7 months. If you are online at exactly 8 am Eastern, that will save you a few minutes since you won't have to cancel anything first. (This is what I would do in your place).

For most times of the year, OKW will be available at 7 months so you can book it after you waitlist for BWV if you need a backup.

Good luck!

I think this is a great idea. I personally would never be able to do this because we visit WDW during the busy DVC times. You could even book OKW at 11 months and then cancel OKW a day before if you look and there is occupancy, then if you don't get BWV you could grab an OKW villa again. Saving minutes in this situation is key. Keep in mind this only works at a slower DVC time.
