Well after lots of talking we have relised that a trip to Disney isn't possible this year as I am being made redundant :( so we have sat & thought about it & we still want to go away in Oct but we can't pick a place, so we are going to book a late deal just one week before we are due to do anything but I have never done anything like this before & will be leaving it up to travel agent to find us somewhere to go.

My main question is has anyone ever done this & if so what type of holiday did you have?

I'm not very good as not knowing what is going on, so it will be hard & then we will have only 1 week to get packed & buy anything we need..

This could be an exciting few months for us :)

Hello, due to family circumstances in the past we have done this, but have booked at around 8 weeks or slighly less. I looked yesterday and there was some reasonable priced ones for the end of June which would make it around the 8 week mark.

I did this a few years ago, and took a big gamble by booking a week of work in June and spent the weekends before hand in town going around the travel agents looking for deals on the dates I had booked off.

Ended up with a very cheap Mediterranean Cruise.

Thanks for replying guys, I think it wioll help that we are both off for 2 weeks & only looking for a week so i'm hope full that we will get somewhere in that time

we did it once with a young baby ! the trick is to keep an open mind and not expect too much, we had a great holiday (cyprus)

:)

We did this years ago ~ went round the travel agents a couple of weeks beforehand and had quite a good choice to pick from. We ended up going to Tenerife ~ somewhere I'd never normally choose as I find beach holidays boring after a couple of days! We didn't even know where we were staying as it was allocation on arrival, all we knew was the hotel would be 3 star or above. So we kept an open mind, were put in a lovely hotel and we both really enjoyed the island.

:wizard: that you get a bargain!

Ah just remembered years ago we booked on the tuesday and flew on the sunday - did an AOA on arrival in lanzarote self catering - it was fine. If you go into first choice or thomson website they do late deals within next 6 weeks - this would give you an idea of what you could get say if you were to go in a week from now !

Thanks for the replies guys, I was really worried about doing this but I think it could be really exciting to do it, my sister suggested getting our injections done for places like egypt & places like that incase we can get a holiday there really cheap.

eeyorefanuk - thats a good idea to look at places now so that way I can get an idea :)
