I believe the answer is a hard no and don't even risk it, but the cost difference is like $1,500, so worth a shot to see if anyone's had luck doing this.

We're looking at moving up a cruise we have booked in March 2022 to November and noticed the prices of a VGT verandah are amazing. Problem is, we'll definitely need 2 adjoining rooms for our family. I know the rooms are given to you at check in, but has anyone else tried to move their room post-COVID with the reduced capacities and had any luck?

You can request it, but no guarantee. If you would be ok splitting up the savings may be worth the risk. It really depends on your travel party and comfort level.

ETA: I assume you want connecting rooms (with an interior door between them). Adjoining may be next door, maybe across the hall, or even a couple doors down.

We have booked VGT a few times with more than one room. They have all been connecting (we booked them together and linked them). But your experiences may vary. It is not a guarantee. If it would not work at all for your family to not be close, then it isn't worth it.

I was able to get my OGT room moved a few weeks ago, but it was due to an issue I had with being assigned a handicapped room with no bathtub (this can happen when you book GT, so be aware of that, too). Generally, whatever GT room they give you, they expect you to accept. Since your family definitely needs adjoining rooms, GT reservations would be a big gamble that could end up ruining your trip.
