booked poly - but can’t warm up to the idea of staying there...

I’d stay in a closet at any Disney resort just to be there. If I couldn’t get the resort I wanted. That’s a non issue. Well stay anywhere. Life’s to short to care about that. We have stayed at The Poly. CR and Many many more times at Music. They are all the same at 0300 when we are asleep.

I understand where you are coming from. I love CR. I've rented points at BLT a few times. I love being able to walk to MK, watching fireworks from my balcony, the monorail whizzing by while I have breakfast. One year I couldn't get BLT and got Poly instead. I thought of Poly as dark and old. Maybe if I could get a room with view of fireworks I'd be OK. I didn't. Oh well. I'll make do.
Well. I had a great time! We could walk to TTC or the boat to MK. Balcony didn't overlook the park but it looked over some nice greenery and was good for a nap. Pool was awesome. We had dinner at the Tiki Terrace and watched the fireworks from our table. I still love CR, but Poly isn't far behind.

I don't understand the love of CL for the cost, I don't really care for the CR, and Poly is our favorite MK resort. So my opinion probably isn't of much use BUT we try to stay at all of Deluxes at least once just to experience different things.

1. Your going to have a wonderful outdoor space that CR doesn't have.
2. Your going to have TWO pools that are much better that the CR pools.
3. You can and SHOULD walk to the TTC for Epcot and when coming back from MK at night.
4. You can get a dole whip anytime.
5. Trader Sam's Grotto.
6. That Lobby smell! (is CR the only deluxe without a lobby smell? I mean I guess they could sell "it smells like Chef Mickey's candles)
7. GF and all of its amenities are a very short walk away.

I agree with the above. To us, the CR is a hotel and the Poly is a resort.
I don't get it.
What are the perks of CR, other than walking to MK?

I like at CR I can choose whether I want a balcony or not based on the room type I book. At Poly I had to request a balcony and did not receive one on one of our trips.

The layout of the bathroom is slightly different between the two and I prefer the CR layout.

If traveling during summer, it’s nice to be able to exit the monorail indoors and get to your room without going outside, especially if it’s raining.

I prefer Contemporary Cafe to Captain Cook’s.

The ability to walk to MK also means you have walking ability to catch a bus to any resort on property. If we were heading to World Showcase we would take the Beach Club bus and go in IG.

Poly has pros as well, but we find plenty to love about CR.

Well first, I wouldn't try to compare poly to CR. Very different themes. Both are great for different reasons. Knowing that you enjoy visiting for O'hana makes me assume you enjoy the theme and vibe. It does get busy in lobby area but there is something relaxing about staying there and watching everyone come and go vs. being in the herd. Also swimming at night while watching MK fireworks is nothing short of amazing. Good luck with your decision!!

They both have pro's and con's. Pro's of the CR for me...

The CR's pool is way better to me. The Poly pool is always a crowded mad house. The CR pool is huge and calm compared to the poly pool.

I love the lobby of the CR for the shops. They're spacious & bright. I love everything being in 1 building.

I love that I know I'll get a balcony if I'm booking the Tower. (while I love the Poly, I haven't stayed there in a long time, because of the balcony thing). If I'm staying deluxe and paying that money, I want a balcony. I'll only stay Poly if I can afford CL, so that I'm guaranteed a balcony. And I haven't been able to splurge on that in a long time.

I grew up in the country and have always pined for the city, so perhaps that's part of the appeal to me.

The views from the Tower rooms (MK side) are the best on property!!

Okay now I am worried about the balcony thing. We have a reservation for our anniversary at Poly. We will be extremely upset if we don't get a balcony. We LOVE getting up early and sitting on our balcony drinking coffee and soaking up the Disney air. I'm wondering if we should move our reservation back to YC which has always been our favorite resort.

The first floor will have the patio, second floor has no balcony at all and the third floor will have an actual balcony. You can put it as your only request and hope they fill it. Your odds of getting one at YC are a lot higher, I think almost all rooms have one, although I think a few don't.

Yep, there's still a chance of not getting a balcony at YC, but it is a lower chance. There are some rooms at YC without one (or a patio)
Even without a balcony at Poly you can open the patio door and soak up the Disney air. We had a 2nd floor room and we pulled the chairs in the room over, pulled the door open and sat at the railing. No we weren't ON the balcony but it was fine for that purpose.

Now there's an idea! Thank you.
