Booked DLH - concerned about not getting room configuration I would like

I booked a standard view room last night at DLH. It will be our first time staying there. We have a 12 year old son and 6 year old daughter. There is no way they are going to sleep in the same bed. I am scared that once we get there we will get a 2 queen room and not the room with the daybed. How likely is this or how do they decide who gets what kind of room?

If there are only 4 of you on the reservation it is possible. I think they go by the number of people in the room first, so those with 5 would get first preference. That being said, I think there are a good number of the rooms with the daybed. If you happen to get one without, call down and ask for a roll away, that will work just as good as the daybed.

While it might be somewhat "gaming" the system, you might change your reservation to 5 adults. There is no additional charge.

My father and I took my son last year and we needed two queens with a daybed. All we did was request it when we got there and they gave it to us. I think it depends on how busy they are, if you're willing to wait for a room, and if they have it available. Just call a week ahead and request it over the phone, and then ask again at check in.

I agree with the others - all you can do is put in your request and follow up as needed as a reminder and you will more than likely get your request - however, they cannot guarantee these things - if there are lots of people booked with 5 people in their party they are going to get those rooms first, as honestly that is sort of how it should work. My DD13 and my DD12 will not hsare a bed as well - so when we stay in a hotel with 2 queen beds, if there is no optional sofa or day bed, then my DD sleeps with me and my DS with my DH. We have only done this a few times as we only stay in a room configuration like that a few nights at a time for the same reasons as you.

We have a special room request for the GCH this July and are super nervous we will not get it. We were in the area in early February so we stopped into the hotel and spoke with the front desk. They told us to check in before we arrive.. Couple days beforehand.. To put the bug in their ear and to hopefully have them make a note. And then, since they told us the room assignments are not made until the day of to call bright and early/ check in the earliest possible. He said even if it's 6am.. Your room won't be ready but they can check your luggage and you can return later to settle into your room. That will not be an option for us, but we will be calling bright and early for sure!

You can call and request the daybed. If there are 5 people in the room those groups will automatically get the daybed rooms first. Then they follow requests. Or at least this is what they told me last time we were there.

If you are requesting a daybed, they are very rare at GCH (only 39). While I love GCH, parties of 5 are more easily accommodated at DLH or PPH.

It is just so frustrating that you have to pay so much to stay in Disney hotels (both WDW and DL) and you cannot book the kind of room you need.

Can't they just put a "wall of pillows" between them? They may be so excited to be at Disneyland it won't matter. If you tell them that's just the way it is, deal with it, they might surprise you!

Sleeping with either of them is sleeping with a ninja. They are both all over the bed and safety is an issue with either of them. That is why they have to have seperate beds.

Okay then here is a suggestion - stay off site at the Hojo in their kids suites - they each get a bunk bed - and you might say 'bunk bed, my DS12 is too big?" Well my DD13 is 5'7" and managed fine in the top bunk our last trip.

Two rooms, king bed in one room, bunks and sofa in the other, two tvs, closets and two bathrooms, never mind all the SPACE you have there! They are excellent accomodations. We are booked to stay onsite our next trip but only cause it's a short trip which for us is 5 nights, otherwise we always stay in the kids suites as we stay at least 8 nights each trip.

Only thing is they book up fast so it might already be too late.

Thanks - we really want to stay on-site this time. We did the new Courtyard last time and it was fine - but we are trying for onsite this time.

Then I hope it works out for you! We had thought about the courtyard too but they just have 1 bathroom per suite - it seems there is plenty of choice for people to find what they want at what price range though and still within a good distance. We are planning on site our next trip but just cause it's a shorter stay. Otherwise we'd go :crazy2: !!

Exactly. And, it doesn't even seem to matter what type of room you reserve either. At DLH I've booked a premium view room, and they tried to stick us with a standard parking lot view. Last trip I only booked a deluxe view room, and they put us in an amazing premium Downtown Disney view room. It was a corner room just a floor or two higher than the wizard hat. So, at DLH, you never know what you're gonna get. Which doesn't seem right when paying $500+ per night.

Only suggestion is check in as early as you can and make your requests clear.

We used Aerobeds for our kids sometimes. We did not overstuff a room, but even in DVC 2BR we did this (4 kids, 3 boys 1 girl. the 2 Teen boys would not share, and the 3rd is special needs and has issues..) But you will likely get a daybed, but could pack an aero as a backup.
