Booked Cat. 11 Rcvd Cat. 8

First Time cruiser with wife and 4 kids. I booked 2 Guaranteed Cabins Cat 11 on 8/31 Wonder, and just called and was told we are on Deck 6 in Cat.8 Deluxe Oceanview. Besides the window (which is great!) are the room larger in 8 than 11?

Yes, they are a bit larger. Also, you will have the benefit of the split bathroom. There will be one room with a toilet and sink and another room with a shower and sink. That alone would be worth it to me. It makes getting ready so much easier.

Congrats NJBILL,
We also just recieved our upgrade for 9/18 cruise....upgraded from cat 11 to cat 9 on deck 2.
No personal experience but from the info I got from my Passporter guide is seems the cabins are slightly bigger, infact
cat 11 are 184sf, cat 8-9 214sf, with what they call a split bathroom, seperate rooms for shower-sink and toilet-sink.
We are very excited about our upgrade to a room with an "ocean view"

but did they give you the upgrade unsolicited? Do you pay extra for it? I've read threads where people ask for upgrades when they arrive at port and assumed you pay the difference w/maybe a discount (?). We're scheduled for adjoining category 10 cabins w/secret porthole. Would love to know more.

The only thing I requested was to be next to each other I paid for Cat. 11 "guaranteed" cabin. This was a nice surprise.

We made no requests room wise, just booked guaranteed cat 11,
Called TA yesterday to get our cabin assignment and she found that DCL had changed our ressie to cat 9.
There is no extra charge when they upgrade you, and no we did not ask for upgrade.

Stuff like this never happens to us,
Were very excited!!!

What if your reservation already has a room number? Would they ever upgrade that?

Even with a r oom number there is a slim chance (the slim chance the above folks had) of getting an upgraded room.
