Booked 1 BR at HH

So excited!! We were able to book a 1 BR at HH for 5 nights in June. We are taking a 2 year old and a 12 year old. For those of you who have been there, what are our MUST DO's around the resort and around HH???

We booked from June 19-24. MS said there was limited availability, but did not go into detail. I was shocked to get a whole 5 days. I was not expecting to get that at 7 months out. I called the day I was able to at 9:00

HHI is an amazing resort with so much to do for adults and kids..We have spent the last 4 years there the first or third week of June. Previous trips in summer have been August and July. Much prefer June. Whether is warm and not as much of a chance of the humid thudershowers. There are many daily activities at the some are free and others have a cost (bingo, tie-dye t-shirt making, messy science, lanyard making, sea creatures/gator talks, campfires, poolgames at both pools, nature/marsh explorations, kayaking and dolphin tours, hoe-down dance meeting Shadow(the mascot golden retreiver..many others). There is usually a BBQ one evening. The beach house is very easy to get to either by your own car, bike or via the shuttle(about 1.5 miles). The beach is a joy to walk for miles.....Mini-golf and the real stuff is all over the island...Great restaurant for families, pick up the restaurant guide at the island tourism building right as you get ont he island..you can go to hhidining.com also. We decide to go for July fourth this year so we will hit the hit, but we love the area and the beach and pools cools us down. Have a great trip!

Our must do list is:
Low Country Boil - It isn't the food that makes the evening it is the time with the official story teller B'Lou Crabbe.

Kayaking - Youre 12 year old will really enjoy this. Sometimes you get to see the porpoises up close.

Fireworks - one night a week during the summer months

The hot tub for the adults.

Any event with B'Lou Crabbe

They also have great nature walks - some free and some off property that you have to pay.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. Is the low country boil seafood. My husband is not a seafood lover

Can the 2 year old do the Kayaking or is he too young?? I know he can't particpate in rowing the kayak, but I did not know if he was too young to just sit in one so we could go as a family.

Congrats....we're going in July for what I think will be our 15th summer stay at DVC HHI (our home resort). One of the things we love the most about the resort and HHI in general is that you can have a fantastic time with very full days or have a fantastic time with days you do next to nothing. It's great sometimes to have the ONLY decision you have to make in a day is should you 1) go to the pool first or 2) should you go to the ocean first.

Must do's for us have been:

• must rent or bring bikes and ride everyday
• spend an evening at Harbortown or the Salty Dog (we don't eat there anymore tho)
• Spend Tue night at Shelter Cove then walk back to the resort to catch the fireworks from Community Hall
• Camp fire and smore's
• Guisseppe's for pizza one night
• Family Mini-golf
• Shopping.....OK, not the favorite of my son and I but my wife and 3 daughters love it so we endure it

Lots more too......have fun. Let the countdown begin!!!

We made our first visit to HHI this past October and really enjoyed our brief stay. As an HHI novice, I can't really offer any tips on what to do while at HHI. But there are lots of things to see and do. Here are some photos of HHI:

The main pool at the Resort is called the Big Dipper. You can't see it in this photo, but there is a hidden Mickey in the Big Dipper sign.

Here is the activity board near the community hall. There were a lot more things going on than what is listed on the blackboard.

Here is a photo of the beach from near HHI's beach house. This photo was taken in October, so I'm sure the beach will be more crowded in June.

Our first trip to HHI is next Memorial Day weekend and that week. Will they have fireworks and special activities then? Do they have special food offerings at the resort?

The Low Country boil had pork (yum), boiled shrimp and gumbo (I can't remember if it was shrimp or crab with sausage), corn on the cobb, mac n cheese, chicken nuggets (for the kids), salad(s), cornbread (it was really good) and cheesecake for dessert.

I think the entertainment with B'Lou Crabbe and the kids attending the boil was the pretty good. But from our bus driver it was the first time the entire summer that the kids actually kept together when playing their instruments.

I would think it would not be possible to have your 2 year sit in a kayak unless they are set up differently than regular kayaks. I didn't notice what the kayaks look like when we were there in October. Perhaps someone else would know.

How cold is the water around first week in April? I would like to take the kids to either HH or Vero Beach. HH is closer but is VB warmer at that time of year?

In early April, HH temps usually will be in the low 70's and even the ocean may be warm enough to enjoy a swim. VB should be a little warmer.
