Book thru Disney or Expedia?

I got rates from both Disney and Expedia. For the same dates expedia was several hundred dollars less. Am I losing anything by not booking thru Disney? Any good or bad experiences thru Expedia?

While I haven't ever worked with Expedia, I have heard a lot of reports that their customer service is less than acceptable. Apparently, they are not very responsive to your needs once they have your money, and have been reported to give their clients incorrect information. Again, this is all second-hand info, so take it with a grain of salt.

Also, make sure that you're comparing apples to apples. The quotes the DCL website gives you usually include insurance and transfers by default, while Expedia's quote may be just for the cruise.

Finally, I'd suggest getting a quote from Dreams Unlimited, the sponsors of this site. Their prices are very competitve, they are Disney experts, and their customer service is top-notch (this is first-hand info, based on my experience with them).

Good luck!

I would have to agree.... Either double check with DCL ( if it is important to you to have direct control of your cruise arrangements ) And, do get a quote from other places, like Dreams Unlimited, and All Seasons travel. You will want a good agency who specializes in Disney, and is known for good service.

PS: Go to insuremytrip.com for your insurance. Better coverage for way less money. DCL insurance will cost you more. If you want insurance - taking out your policy right away when booking your trip will mean NO exclusions for pre-existing conditions.

Happy planning!

Check with DU, allsea, AAA, Sam's and Costco. Also look at icruise.com and see what the prices are there. My guess is that all will be lower than DVC and about the same or lower than expedia.

Don't book anything until you've gotten a quote from DU!!! They were recommended to us by a friend, and we've gotten top-notch service from them as we've planned the details for our upcoming WDW and Wonder vacation. Competitive prices and excellent agents!

We booked with expedia, and there were mistakes with our resevation. It has taken several phone calls to straighten it out. They had corrected our info on their records, but no one corrected it with Disney. If I hadn't called Disney myself, we would have never discovered it, and our last names wouldn't have matched at boarding. The people at expedia are pleasant and helpful, but their seems to be a problem with them following thru on what they say they are gonna do. I finally got someone who faxed disneys info (from Disney) directly to me, so I could be appeased that it had finally been corrected.
I was with my neighbor on the fourth of July, and we impulsively booked this cruise together, and I think we saved alot of money with expedia, also we were able to do it on a holiday, so on that level it worked for us. By that evening, the category rooms we had (we booked 4 category 11) were not showing availability any longer. If you book with expedia, double check all your info, if you have time, I would see if you could get dreams unlimited to send you a quote. Good luck!

I've recently been comparison shopping myself. In fact, I just got a quote from DU and expedia for a 7-day. Disney quotes $4550 which includes tranfers ($150) and insurance.

DU-basically, exactly the same as Disney, but you get a $150 cash rebate.

Expedia-At first it seemed alot lower. It started with an on-line quote of appr. $3550 compared to $4550 at Disney. I called to ask what all was included. Immediately, I was given a revised total of $4100. This does not include insurance ($270 for 3) or transfers (apprx. $150) or their $15 fee for the group. Basically, $4520. This is only a few dollars less than DCL!!

Whatever you do, be careful and ask what is included. Personally, we'll probably go with DCL because we have before and I feel more comfortable dealing directly with them.
