Book suggestion?

I would recommend Janet Evanovich. She is a great writer who focuses on suspence/humor. She has a series that you might enjoy, but make sure to start at the beginning. Her books have a number in the title, so the series is easy to follow.

Tell No One by Harlan Coben. I started that book in the morning and stayed up until 4am because I HAD to finish it. Harlan Coben is fantastic.

Another series to read w/the family is"Chronicles of Narnia" by C. S. Lewis. 7 in the series total-quick read.

Suggest you definitely take paper back. If your purse/pack is big enough, you can take it with you where ever you are. I have left books behind so I don't have to take them back for others to enjoy.

Nora Roberts writes romance that's not too "harlequin-esque"

If you ever have the chance, browse the book section of places like Target, Wal-Mart and other book stores. Read the covers and see what you like. Then, as someone suggested, get them at a used book store.

Good Reading. ::MickeyMo

Don Winslow has a good series about a private investigator named Neal Carey. I think the first book in the series is called Cool Breeze on the Underground. The books are suspenseful, but not too heavy.

I have read every book that she has written in a matter of hours. I have loved them all. The Stephanie Plum ones are awesome!!!! My DH is always getting to hear clips of the lastest antics...

Also Jennifer Cruise is really good also. But I think the library considers them a bit racy. As ours doesn't carry them. I have read Chrlie all night and it is as the title sounds..

But once you start the Stephanie Plum ones by JAnet make sure that you have the next one right there ready to read..

Danielle steele is also wonderful. I have read all of her books..

Rapunsel it seems as if we have very similar reading habits! LOVE Janet and Jennifer. And so many others! Did you already read Janet's Metro Girl? It's kind of like a Stephanie Plum book, but with different characters. I'm also still on the waiting list for #11; I think I'm # 5 on the list, and that's for a book that hasn't even been put out on the shelf yet!
As for Jennifer Crusie our library has most of her titles,as well as other "racey" titles. I guess I'm lucky that the library director where I work likes to have people reading even if they're reading the "smutty" books, which of course I gobble up, :rotfl: along with every other kind of book!

Angels and Demons by the guy who wrote the DaVinci Code. Preceeds the Davinci Code. Great read.

I can't remember if these have been mentioned...

I just finished the first two in the Traveling Pants series. They are "teen" books, but I enjoyed them.

I am not the OP, but thanks to everyone who recommended Janet Evanovich! Since this thread began I have read One for the Money and am now on Two for the Dough. I REALLY love the character of "Morelli" and think DH will enjoy the series too.

I read The DaVinci Code and as a Christian I have to say I found the entire premise very hard to swallow. As the daughter and granddaughter of Masons I felt that group, too, was slammed in the book. JMHO.

I recently discovered the series "Number One Lady's Detective Agency" --
set in Botswana, of all places, it tells the story of a 40-something woman who opens her own detective agency. I really enjoyed the first book and look forward to continuing in the series.

I just thought of another good series: The Kinsey Millhone mystery series by Sue Grafton. They're light, suspenseful, and entertaining (but not as hilarious as Janet Evanovich's series). The first book in the series is "A is for Alibi".

I don't think anyone have mentioned Jennifer Weiner. She writes great "chic lit" book. Humorous light reads like "Good in Bed" and her newest Little Earthquakes". Great Summer reads.

I definitely agree with the Narnia series. I have found my faith stronger as I grow older and the allegories are sooo interesting to me.

Also, enjoyed Harry Potter, Dan Brown's books, Lemony Snicket's series (the social and political references in them are hilarious - although Daniel Handler (AKA Mr. Snicket) is a bit liberal and I am on the conservative side)...

Being a Disney fan, the Mary Poppins series by P.L. Travers. They are kid books but they are so funny since she is so very stuck on herself. And it is fun to see how Disney transformed the scenes.

Another book I read lately is Caramelo: a Cuento, can't remember the author but she is hispanic and the insight into the Mexican culture was so much fun and insightful.

Also, if you like historical novels, The Other Boleyn Girl, Phillipa Gordon has a few other books about Elizabeth I and other English women. Also, I just read The Sand-Reckoner don't remember the author but it was about Archimedies, the mathematician. Sounds boring but was very interesting and gave a humanside to mathematics.

Don't recommend the Pilot's Wife's first three chapters while you are flying. I like the book, but picked this one when it came out on a business trip (a long time ago) and was a nervous wreck while reading them during the flight. I couldn't put it down, but the beginning is not for anyone who may be even the least bit worried about air travel.... I am a pretty good flyer, but it bothered me. The return flight was better as I was more involved with the characters.

Please keep the suggestions coming, I am always looking for them! A book club sounds great! Enjoy!

I just read the latest one-In the Company of Cheerful Ladies-- and enjoyed it.

If anyone likes light mysteries I can recommend Laura Childs. She has two different series going. One takes place in a tea shop and starts with Death by Darjeeling. The other series is about a woman who owns a scrapbook store--Keepsake Crimes. These are quick reads.

Another author I enjoy is Jeanne Ray. Julie and Romeo is the funniest of her books I think.

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon are great. Fun time traveling historical romance with a strong female lead.

WALT DISNEY...An American Original by Bob Thomas. It's an amazing book about an amazing man. Will truly make you understand the man behind the Mouse. Couldn't put it down!

PS LOVE the book club thread idea!!!!

How about quilting books? THe Elm Creek quilters is a good series--about a group of women and their lives. ALso-anything by Adrienna Trigiani (sp?)-I second the Poisonwood Bible and also Prodigal Summer, Bean Trees--all by Kingsolver. I didn't read the whole thresd so some may be duplicated. Anita Shreve is always good. Carl Hiassen is fun and very-Florida like. Ask your local librarian-they usually have good suggestions.

I agree with the suggestion of ALexander McCall Smith--also the SUnday Philosophy Club! Great and hope he makes it into a series!
