I'm planning a trip to WDW next May and want to stay at the AS Movies. Should I reserve our rooms now at regular rack rate or wait for a discount?

I guess what I'm asking is can I adjust an already reserved room rate to a discounted one?

Yes you can always call if a discount comes out. Disney will adjust your price accordingly.....if there are rooms available at the discount price.
We have stopped worrying about codes, discounts, etc. by letting WDWVacations.com do all the work for us. We found them on mousesaver.com and they saved us about $800.00 this year. They will book for you (you get a free, no obligation quote first) and then they keep looking for any and all discounts that may come out until your trip. They started us off with a AAA discount and then made two changes as new deals came out. They also made all our priority seatings for us. Great deal...especially since it's FREE!!!!
Save yourself time and hassle and a lot of phone calls. Let the Disney specialist take care of you. I would never consider doing this myself again.

I recommend booking with Dreams Unlimited since they do all the work for you on getting the discounts and their ad revenue keeps these boards running. I have had very good success with them even when CRO says there are not discounts available.

I booked first with DU and later Marla the TA applied the code to the ressie. It is totally stress free that way. Marla got us everytghing we wanted and saved us $700 off the rack rate. Give it a try. I'll never book WDW again myself.

When you book this way do you have to pay fopr everything right away?

I booked a room only ressie. I only had to pay a deposit totaling one nights lodging. The cancellation policy for room only ressies are much more flexible than the package deals. I think I have close to a week ahead to cancel. My brain is cloudy tonight.I cannot stress how easy and great it is working with DU. They also arrange your ps and give you a detailed itinerary. Goog Luck!

When you book with a TA the cancellation policy is the same as CRO.....room only would be 6 days out of travel-fully refunded deposit amount. 5 days or less you would forfeit your deposit.
