Book non villa room with points?

Sorry...I know I this should be easy to find...but I can't and I am getting frustrated...

Can you use your DVC points to book rooms in a non villa resort...like the Contemporary but not Bay Lake?

Or do they have to be Villa Resorts?

If you pay extra to buy direct, you can use your pts at the hotels as well as the villas.

It will cost more to book a hotel room than a studio, though. There are extra booking fees as well.

I think dvcnews has the point charts if you are curious.

Edited to add: couldn't find the charts on dvcnews but looked on the member site. CR hotel rooms start at 53 pts for a weeknight in the cheapest season. Point charts for the hotel side are not fixed like the villas and can increase every year.

You can but it does not make economic sense to do so. For example a Room in the Contemporary during Value Season is the low of 53 points (weekday) to Holiday Season Club Level weekend at 116 points per day.

If you are renting points you would be much better staying at Villa. If you own you could stay twice as long or reserve a larger unit and still not use as many points.

If you are buying now, you would have to buy direct to be able to use the Disney Collection (non-DVC resorts & Cruises). Resales after 3/2011 are not eligible.

I'm assuming you're a DVC member with access to the website - when you go to the link for Vacation Planning -> Points Charts, it takes you to the first 'tab' which are the charts for the DVC properties. The next tab over is for the Disney properties which are not DVC. (I had the hardest time finding it, myself, the first time. I just didn't notice the 'tabs'!)
