I just got a new job and will probably need to cancel my BCV ressie for September. New job = no vacation time.

Darn.

Now I have to figure out the cancellation policy and how to bank. Or maybe I will be able to save enough vacation time to use before April 1.

Congrats on the new job. Have you considered taking unpaid vacation time? Your new employer might allow it. It never hurts to ask.

I took a job once and told them that I wouldn't be able to work my second or third week because of a planned vacation, they just told me to start when I got back.

I also took a job with a similarly timed vacation as yours, two weeks, four or five months down the road. It wasn't paid, but it was no problem either.

Have you mentioned it? Is the paid time absolutely needed?

I wouldn't definitely nix the vacation until at least mentioning it. The may even do something creative as the vacation nears and you prove valuable.

Now that the deal is done there's probably not much hope. I was in a similar situation, only I had been laid off. It was really getting worrisome, and I would have scrapped the vacation in hearbeat if I had to. Fortunately, I got offered a job last week that is better than the one I had. I negotiated the vacation time up front and got a later start date.
