bonine in Canada?

We are headed out to our first cruise this March!!

On the cruise boards they recommend taking bonine a day before the cruise to take care of the sea sickness before it begins. Everyone swears it's the best med to use.

I've never seen it here in Ontario, but then I don't think I've ever looked for it!!

Does anyone know if it's available here??

In Canada is was sold under the name of Bomamine, and it is no longer sold in Canada. In the US its called Bonine or Dramamine.
The regular formula is similar to Gravol. I can not take gravol and can only take the Non-drowzy formula when we cruise.
It is available in 2 forms in the US... the main ingredient in the Non-Drowzy forumal is called meclizine.

I usually buy it when i go shopping in the US..its available at Walmart...etc.
I also bought a bottle from the pharmacist of Meclizine..i think it was 100 tabs for $6. Much better then the 8 pills for $6 of bonine
We take a pill the night before and religiously in the morning and before bed. We have yet to be sick on a Cruise.
do you pop over the border to shop at all?

Bonine is "Over the counter" brand name of Meclizine the active ingredient in Bonine is Meclizine HCI 25mg .
Exact same thing except you can buy a bottle of Meclizine for alot cheaper the package Bonine. But you have to ask at the Pharmacy Counter for it . Its not sold under that name over the counter.
Dramamine (also sold in the US) Has 2 forumla's ..
The "Normal" formula which contains 50 mg of dimenhydrinate. Which is the same ingredient in Gravol. I can't take that cause it knocks me out
The non-Drozy formula contains 25 mg of Meclizine Hydrochloride.

If you obtain sea sick pills on the cruise ship they will give you Meclizine tablets

Are you very prone to seasickness?
I've been on several cruises and have yet to be seasick. My kids haven't either and we've had some fairly rough seas.
You might consider taking it along just in case.

This is our first cruise, so I don't know.
I do know I can't sit in the backseat of the car, and no longer able to tolerate spinning type rides at carnivals.

I just wouldn't want being seasick to ruin our trip, so I thought if I could get some bonine to take...I would. I just haven't seen it here.

I've been on two cruises and both times I was seasick within 20 minutes of sailing. My doctor also recommended taking the tablets at least one day before sailing.

I only use them the first night of a cruise (take as soon as I get on board). I pick them up in the American airport. I can get a small pack of 2 for just under $2 at any convenience type store in the airport. They are on the wall with the tylenol, contact case, q-tips etc.

Go to the pharmacy counter and ask for the patch. It is a circular patch you wear behind your ear for three days and then change it. They do not require a prescription in Canada but you do have to ask for it. They work really well and never make me drowsy.

We just returned from a cruise and seasickness was a big issue for us. I was told you needed a perscription for the behind the ear patch so I picked up travel tabs from walmart. The only problem was they they really made everyone drowsy so we waited to use them. Usually a walk on deck was enough to make the nasuea disappear for a little while. I had looked for the pressure bracelets but was unable to find them. We use those for car rides (I usually pick them up at the dollar store) and they've always worked well for us without medicating.

Bonine is 25 milligrams of meclyzine. i have found it at target in the US. Even a better deal is behind the counter, just ask for the no name brand of 25 mil of meclyzine. it is really inexpensive.

OR Ginger tablets. I've been on 5 cruises so far. The first one I used nothing, and was very ill the first night and last night of our cruise (rough waters heading out of Florida and back in). The next 2 cruises I used Gravol and was great. Took them before boarding and then again on the last afternoon. Was ill the one time I didn't take them as they were in our packed luggage (lesson learned) till supper time and by then it was too late. For the 4th and 5th cruise I decided to try Ginger tablets and used the Gravol made ones (they contained NO medicinal ingredients, just happened to be made by Gravol). And I wasn't ill at all
I'm prone to motion sickness, and was very happy to find that the ginger tablets worked for me, as Gravol motion sick meds left me feeling sleepy.

My husband and father swear by bonine for their travel sickness. My father flies a lot overseas and when they took bonine off the market had to stock up when in the states. The last time we spoke, however, he said he was able to get meclycine from the pharmacy locally. Not sure if this was with or without a perscription.

We use the seabands for the kids (pressure bands) for the first and last night ofthe cruise as they tend to be the roughest going out and into port. Has worked thus far
