What is it about BOMA that everyone likes so much? I see a lot of people mentioning it. We're looking for a place to have a TS meal for our first complete day at DW. We'll be at MK earlier in the day but plan to leave at afternoon parade and not go back that day. We're not getting hoppers so we can't eat dinner in any other park. Also, we're thinking about taking some family, that live in Orlando, out to dinner and don't eat at Disney restaurants.

Would BOMA be a nice place for us to take our 2 boys (6 and 11) and 5 extra adults?

Thanks.

I don't know, but I read sooooo many rave reviews of Boma that I booked it myself.

Good luck!

Well Im not sure why everyone else likes it. But the sweetpea likes it because its different. And she means that in a good way. Its not the normal thing you will see in your home town. The atmostphere is great. The food is good. Different, but good. I was glad we went there, but wasn't sure about going back. It was the sweetpea who wanted to make another visit there on our next trip. I think BOMA would be a nice place for you and your family to try. And if they dont like the different options that are available, there are some good standard foods as well. Its worth a trip.

The food is outstanding, and the service is fabulous! My mom, son, and I all LOVED the buffet offerings - especially the fu fu potatoes (you must try them). They have very good coffee, a great variety of dishes from salads to sides to seafood to meats... and save room for dessert!!!

Plus, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is really magnificent - you can go outside and check out the Savannah while you're at the resort.

I HIGHLY recommend Boma. We enjoyed it so much we had to stop on our way out and make an ADR for breakfast - we loved that too!

I really want to eat at Boma because of all the great reviews AND I want to see the AKL. We haven't stayed there but this vacation I have tried to book ADRs at restaurants in resorts to get a look at the different ones. It would seem too weird (and a waste of time) to just go to a resort to walk around. You must have a purpose in life! ;)

We didn't like it. We thought the food was "above average for a buffet" which made it bad for table service. Since it is a buffet, you should expect good buffet food. (Soups were excellent - they hold in warmers well). We got seated way in the back and the restaurant was crowded. But a lot of our "we didn't like it" was high expectations. Really, it couldn't live up to the expectation that it was "excellent" or that Zebra Domes were "the best dessert in Disney."

We didn't find it very exotic, though the spices were a little unusual.

I think people like it because it is unusual, because it is a buffet - and it is extensive. There are 80 some options on this buffet every day.

The resort is very cool. Do realize you can't see animals from the restaurant and arrival early to spend some time at the viewing area before it gets dark. (Weather permitting, once it gets dark they bring in night goggles, but they can be difficult for kids to find anything with and there will not be an unlimited quantity.)

It IS off the beaten path a little. When we visit AKL, we budget for cabs. If you have a car, its no big deal. If you are taking buses it might be a bigger deal.

We had breakfast there one morning the food was amazing. This is also when I fell in love with AKL.

We LOVE Boma! Some of the food is typical American, but most of it is a tad exotic, with spices and flavors that we are not used to here in middle America. The soups are just heavenly; the field greens have very unusual and yummy dressing; the prime rib is smoky and wonderful and the sauces are so good.
We try to eat there every trip; last time we didn't get to go but we did eat at Jiko and that was like Boma times ten!

We went last year to Boma and thought it was awful. I very much enjoy different foods, but this just was not good in our opinion. You will find that you will get very mixed reviews on all restaraunts in Disney. Best advice is to just try it.

:wave2: I enjoyed the food but I did not like the buffet atmosphere. I went last year and will not be going back there this year.

DH and I love Boma, but I'm a vegetarian, and while DH eats meat, he certainly isn't a meat and potatoes kind of guy. I think if you are used to and enjoy traditional American foods, Boma might not be your kind of place. I just love all of the different salads and soups. The salads, in particular, are very unique and delicious. We've had top notch service both times we've been there.

We like it because it is far more interesting than the typical Disney buffet and we try to take the approach not to eat the same stuff you can easily get at home when we're at WDW. And AKL is beautiful to visit.

We didn't like it either. We had read all the rave reviews and my DH's cousin highly recommended it. We are adventurous eaters and really didn't find anything we liked at this buffet, and believe me - I tried everything! We will not eat there again.
AKL is very cool and we did walk around it and enjoy the animal viewing.

I could have written this myself. We are also adventurous eaters, and we also will not be returning to Boma. The soups are good, but everything else is pretty average to bad.

I would bring your family to 'Ohana instead after all, 'Ohana means family!

We tried Boma for the first time last December and we liked it pretty good. We ars very picky eaters especially my husband. Everyone in our party was able to find something they liked. I enjoyed the fact that it was different from all of the other restaurants. This is probably not somewhere we will go every time we go to disney but only on occasion because it is a pretty pricey restaurant for a buffet style place. But the food is good if you are willing to give it a try. Go to allearsnet.com they have a menue of what they usually serve.

Hello,

We stayed at the AKL for our Honeymoon  two years ago and had our first dinner there as dh and dw. We enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was different, different spices, different veggies, different styles of cooking!! We are going to be eating there on Wednesday night :cool1: :cool1: and would recommend it to most people. But we did not take our son there when we were there in July. Not his kind of place!!!

Soon to be wining and dining at WDW,

Heidi and Bob

DH and I have never tried it either but because of the rave reviews we made reservations for breakfast and dinner. We scratched out dinner once DH saw pictures of the food.......as he said "If I cannot tell what it is from looking at it I am not eating it" LOL

You have a large group--are you sure you want to do a buffet? I am just wondering if the hassle of so many people going up and back from the buffet would make it hard to relax and enjoy your meal.

Boma is also quite loud. The space is high and opens to the Victoria Falls lounge. Have you thought about Jiko (if you think your kids would be OK there)? Their food is excellent, and it's a bit quieter.

If you do go to Boma, try the soups (I remember a chicken-corn chowder that was yum), I also enjoyed the potatoes with afritude, the salad, and the sweet potato fufu.

DH and I like Boma because we get to eat a lot of things that we don't normally eat. Plus, you can try different things and get something else if you don't like them. Plus, if you really don't like anything, they have "normal" food like spaghetti. I don't normally like buffets, but I love Boma. We took my mom there for the first time last fall, and she doesn't like buffets either. She liked all the different foods. We've always had good servers when we've gone.
