Boma vs. Jiko

My DH and I are going to WDW in May. Our goal for this trip is to eat at restaurants that we have not eaten at before.

Our only challenge right now is choosing between Boma and Jiko. I am leaning towards Boma since I am a picky eater, DH is leaning towards Jiko because he is a little more adventurous and is a bit wary of buffets.

I CAN be adventurous- but there are some things that I simply cannot eat, and I'm worried about getting "stuck" and having to survive on bread while DH enjoys a meal. The current Jiko menu that's posted on AllEars is not very promising for my palate.

Which restaurant would you choose?

I like both restaurants- At Boma you will be able to eat more of a variety of foods for one set price- although it is fun to try the flavors of Africa- there is a small sampling of mac and cheese and other Disney staples. Boma is noisy and crowded but I find the food well worth it.

Jiko is a higher priced restautant with a more romantic atmosphere. The chefs will make you what you want to eat if you have any special requests- being a picky eater- just request in advance. I loved the food and was willing to try anything on their menu- My husband is much more of a picky eater and did not enjoy Jiko as much as I did. He likes Boma much better and looks forward to going there.

I've eaten at both and prefer Boma. When we ate at Jiko, our food was just ok, and service stunk. We've never had a bad meal about Boma. At Boma, you can try a lot of stuff, and if you don't like it, you can just get something else. Plus, you can sample a lot more stuff. We don't normally eat at buffets, but we both love Boma.

I have had the original thoughts as you have regarding Jiko. Our next trip coming up, I have ADR's for Boma, after looking at the menus of the two, I just didn't see myself choosing much from Jiko. But at Boma, there is always something on a buffet to satisfy me.

I really liked Boma -- there were somethings I wouldn't have ordered just alone, but the buffet is well stocked with lots of tantalizing treats that I loved. We're definately going back to Boma as we're staying in AKL on our April trip.

Jiko here ...I didn't like the offering at Boma....to bland for my taste..

I was a little reluctant about the whole "African" food, too, but Jiko was wonderful! I got the halibut, and DH got a salad, pork tenderloin, and a creme brulee dessert, and there was nothing "weird" about it. The only think I didn't like was the rye-type bread and curry butter, but that was just a matter of taste. Everything about Jiko was great. Although we didn't try Boma, it looked nice, but after eating all those buffets (CM, CP...), it was nice to have a wonderful, sit down meal.

Jiko really isn't that adventerous. The serve a steak, a chicken dish, a fish dish, a large rib. It really isn't "weird" food - though it is expensive. I'm sure that if the spicing seems weird to you, you could ask to have your fish or chicken just broiled.

I'd choose JIKO over BOMA any day and I don't dislike BOMA - I just love JIKO that much!!! I can be a pickey eater and there are certain restuarants I'm glad have the beef filet on the menu as there is nothing else I'll eat, but I have a really hard time choosing at JIKO. I love the pork tenderloin, the short ribs, and the beef filet. I tried DH's lamb shank and thought that was pretty good too. I love the pork and duck firecraker appt. and the salad with the carrot buttermilk dressing. So for a picky eater there is TONS on the JIKO menu for me to choose

I've been to both and I'd choose Boma. I like the variety of choices at Boma and the food there is fantastic. The soups are really great as are the salads and desserts. Jiko was just ok. It was not as exotic as I expected. I wouldn't go back to Jiko, but Boma is a must-do every trip.

Jiko is our favorite place to eat at WDW. We eat here on every trip.

Both are great. I thought Jiko was delicious! We have had great meals there. I honestly think Boma has more adventerous tasting food then Jiko. At Jiko you can't go wrong with the Filet and mac-n-cheese!!!! Yum!!!

I love them both, but we go to Boma more often than Jiko ... just because of the cost. I would choose Boma first and save Jiko for your next trip if you find African food to your liking. I think Boma is the best buffet on property. The kitchen is a toally open area behind the buffet with busy chefs whipping up dishes which they swap out frequently. Things don't "sit" at Boma's. That also always have some hand carved meats.
