DH and I are doing DxDP for our Dec. trip. We have several fabulous restaurants booked and had planned to end our trip with a Boma dinner followed by watching the Electric Water Pageant and Holiday Wishes from the Poly beach.

For reference, here is a list of other ADRs we have:
Narcoosee's
50s Prime Time
The Wave
California Grill
Coral Reef
San Angel Inn
1900 Park Fare (Breakfast)
Jiko
Yak & Yeti
Brown Derby
Le Cellier
Raglan Road
Tusker House (Breakfast)

I've been reading tons of dining reviews from Boma and I'm starting to triple guess our ressie there. DH and I don't care for curries and we don't like savoury food with sweet flavors. We do like a lot of spice (heat) in our food, though. I'm afraid we won't like the food at Boma since reviews have been mentioning sweetish foods and curries. We do like Ethiopian food but that is mostly spicy and we enjoy hummus and falafel. DH will eat Prime Rib but I won't eat any meat on a bone or that is fatty. My main concern is this is our last meal of the trip and I don't want it to be a disappointing one.

What do you think are our chances of being disappointed at Boma? Should we re-book somewhere else? If so, where? It needs to be a 1 TS meal as that will be all we have left at that point. We would also prefer that it be a resort restaurant so that we can still see the EWP and fireworks from the Poly beach.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I know you say you don't like this or that, but how do you know for sure you won't like something, unless you try it. Even a dish cooked with a sweet spice or a curry could be prepared a certain way and be remarkably different then the one next to it.

Otherwise, I hate buffets, but Boma was amazing. I found the food delicous, well prepared and the flavors diverse and exciting.

All I can say is that I was disappointed with Boma. I found the food to not be hot-spicy at all....and some fo the food I would say was even bland. I will say that the soups were very good but as far as meal rankings (atleast for us), Boma is closer to the bottom.

But, if you haven't been there, I think it is worth atleast a try....you might really like it. And remember, it is a buffet....so you're sure to find something that you like.

Everyone's opinions are different. For me, I think Boma is much better than almost all of the 1 TS choices you have listed.

However, I'm not sure why you would want to travel all the way to Animal Kingdom Lodge and then all the way back to the Poly Beach. If you are not sure on this, I'd consider picking a resort a little closer to the Poly.

You should at least try Boma regardless of what everyone else (including myself) says. Tons of people like it, probably more than dislike it, and who knows...you may end up loving it.
But, if you really want to be close to the EWP...then I suggest eating somewhere closer than one of the furthest restaurants from the Poly. CM is great and only 1 TS and really close.

I'll put it this way. I have NEVER eaten any curry dish that I found in the least bit pleasing. I hate the taste of tumeric which is one of the most common spices in curry so I don't do well with any Indian foods. When it comes to sweet savoury food, I won't even eat teriyaki sauce if that gives you a point of reference. I think it's fair to say I won't like dishes that are sweet if they are meant to be savoury.

And yes, I also hate buffets but wanted to try Boma due to the many positive reviews. I just don't want to run the risk of being severely disappointed on my last meal of the trip.

I am definitely hoping for hot-spicy yet keeping hearing about sweet spicy. I definitely want to try Boma at some point but I don't want our last meal to be unpleasant. I think it might just be something we should save for our next visit.

We will be at AK this day so Boma is on the way out and back to the Poly.

We would still like to do Boma but don't want to run the risk of hating it our last night and it souring our last trip flavor. Thanks for the CM recommendation.

I know what you mean. I sometimes find that food in the USA tends to be over-salted or over sweetened for my liking. I will not eat anything savoury that tastes sweet (we make savoury french toast and the idea of syrup going near a sausage turns my stomach). I didn't find anything sweet that should have been savoury (but I avoided a lot of the meat based foods) and really enjoyed the hummus and dips with wraps and speciality breads. My soup was delicious (chicken pepper pot). To be honest I expected more spicy than I got. I'd say it was closer to Moroccan food than an Indian curry (if that helps). I think if you enjoy Ethiopian then you will enjoy this (although don't expect spicy, think Moroccan spicy). As for the prime rib- my brother found his rarer cut too fatty, but my mother liked her well done cut. There is a large selection and you will have plent of choice of things that I think you would enjoy (I went thinking that if I did not like it I would just eat chicken nuggets and ended up with the most varied plates). HTH.

That was VERY helpful! It has given me a much more accurate picture of the food as everything I've read talks about all of the cinnamon and curry flavors and I was getting frightened since I don't care for them in savouries. Your description is excellent and really helped alleviate my fears. Thank you for taking the time to clarify!

This thread was helpful for me, too. We LOVE Jiko's, it is our favorite WDW restaurant. We never actually have made it to Boma! For next March we are staying a few days longer than our usual trip so I have Boma in our plans for our first night. SO many people love the place that I figure it's time we try it to see for ourselves. I'm with you though, I don't like curry and cinnamon isn't a favorite, either. I'm glad to hear that there is such a variety of food. I'm sure to find something that I will like.

I'm in the same boat and feel the same way about Boma...

We usually stay at the Poly but are trying AKL this time and I still can't bring myself to try it. We're doing Tusker House, Yak and Yeti and Jiko...but can't do Boma yet.

My suggestion is to try Kona at Poly. There sushi is awesome and there Terriyaki (not sure if I spelt that right) strip steak was out of this world. We ate there 3 times on our last trip and food did not dissapoint. Only the service 1 night. Just stay away from the pan asian chicken noodle dish and you will be fine. My husband loved the steak and the pork chop and he doesn't even really like red mean or pork. Both were tender and left him wanting to go back again.

I didn't care for Ohana at all when most on this board LOVE it. It was okay, but not on my list of returns or favorites, but atleast I can say I tried it.

Jiko is our favorite restaurant on property and that is one of the reasons why we chose Boma. I'm happy this thread was helpful to you also.

I'm pretty sure I'll keep Kona as my back-up. We'd like to try Boma at least once. I'm definitely feeling better about it but won't forget Kona.

Boma is the #1 buffet on Disney property. Try it. The food is not spicey, unless you add the spicey sauces to the carved meats. The food is comfort food, very flavorful and delicious. Great servers there as well.

I would try Kona. To be honest, I've never eaten at Boma, so this has nothing to do with the food, but it makes little sense to me to be at the AKL then trek all the way back for the EWP. (Ok. I hate buffets...disclaimer.) But seriously, I wouldn't enjoy having to do all that traveling back and forth. I think for a last meal, it would be nicer to be done dinner and stroll outside rather than have to worry about catching a bus or driving over.

You make an excellent point. We will have our own vehicle but it is a trek. I'm letting DH decide, though as I'm just torn.

BOMA is one of my favorites! Even if we are staying at a different resort we definitely take the time out for BOMA. We enjoy the AKV Lodge and take time after we eat to sit by the outside fire pit, listen to the stories, and try to find animals while using the night vision goggles. For us, the food is always excellent, coffee superb, and atmosphere well worth the drive.

I also have a reservation for Boma next month, and I am just as nervous...I love to try different things, and have done Korean BBQ, Brazilian Rodizio BBQ, but when the experience is REALLY out there...I guess the only way to find out is to try it.
