Boma Similar to Tusker House?

Our party ate at Tusker House for lunch last year, and the buffet was probably our favorite meal of the trip!

This year we're going to Boma. Should we expect similar food, as we all would like to have Tusker House again. Or should I make a TH reservation as well?

I have the same question in reverse. How does Tusker House compare to Boma. We loved Boma on our previous trip. The variety and quality of food was terrific. If I want something similar, will I be disappointed with Tusker House?

I would say that, for breakfast they are definitely similar. We usually do both on our trips .. well we did it last year and we are going to do both again this year.

The difference is that Tusker house has characters in the AM.

We have eaten at both multiple times.

We usually do Boma for our farewell breakfast on our last day we like it so much.

We haven't ever done the Breakfastasaurus (sp?) at Tusker House, but always try to eat a lunch there while at AK.

I prefer the lunch food at TH to eating dinner at Boma. I would describe TH as Boma-light. I am not the "most" adventurous diner and I thought the lunch foods at TH slightly more mellow than the dinner foods at Boma.

The atmosphere at Boma is very nice (I especially like the light fixtures overhead). I find the buffet at Boma slightly more crowded with people than I have noticed at TH (this goes for both breakfast and dinner at Boma). We have had pleasant servers at both on most occasions.

DH and I have done both and we love Tusker House. We will not be going back to Boma. The food is sort of similar but the choices weren't anything we enjoyed. Boma was cramped, noisy and hot. We just didn't have a good time there and didn't really care for the food either. Though fewer, the choices at Tusker House were better to us. We'll be going back to Tusker House in December for our anniversary instead of Boma like we did last year.

I've heard this said a few times and I would tend to agree, if only due to the fewer number of selections available.

This trip we are kicking off our arrival morning with Boma breakfast and then the very next morning we are doing the Donald Safari Breakfast at TH (This has become a tradition for our DAK days).

I was surprised by the selection of ethnic food at Tusker House. It was right up my alley, so if Boma is a little more "adventurous," that's good news for me!

Seriously, this comes from someone who had a birthday dinner of calf heart, polenta and bone marrow!

I agree with Boma being crowded and noisy. I thought the food was worth it though.

I was surprised by the selection of ethnic food at Tusker House. It was right up my alley, so if Boma is a little more "adventurous," that's good news for me!

TH had a fairly even mix of African-themed and "standard" dishes, while Boma is more slanted toward the former. I was very pleasantly surprised with my first lunch at TH, and plan to go back.

For those who see Boma as crowded, one thing to remember is that you can go to each station individually to fill your plate. Too many folks there seem to think that you have to grab a plate and get in the long line at the very beginning of the buffet. You can save a lot of time by just going to the stations in which you're interested, especially if you're starting your meal with the salads or the soups.

For those who see Boma as crowded

The reason that I said it was crowded and loud was that the night I was there, EVERY seat in the restaurant was taken. It was a challenge walking between our table and the food bars. With everyone there talking, or so it seemed, it was noisy as well. I think our seating was somewhere around 7 pm and it was during free DDP in Sept when table service was included for all resort guests.
