Everyone raves about Boma being such a great restaurant and great food.

But when I look at their sample menu nothing sounds good. My family doesn't like curry or any weird seasonings.

I am afraid to waste a Table Service credit, if we won't like the food and there are SO many other options.

I mean... if you don't like that style of food, maybe it's not for you? It can be a great restaurant and still not a good fit for your family. "Weird" is subjective, though!

I don't eat sushi, so I wouldn't choose a sushi restaurant no matter how good the reviews are, for example. If the menu doesn't appeal to you, eat somewhere else. :)

We love it, but it's probably not for your family, to be honest.

It's not your standard buffet offerings.

For me it's decent for a buffet. But with that said, it's still a buffet with pre-made food sitting on a serving station ready for droves of people to pile their plates as high as possible and then repeat the process two or three times. I'll admit I'm not a big fan of buffets overall and while Boma is not a must do for me, it along with Biergarten are two that I will visit besides breakfast.

I think it really depends on your personal preferences. We ate breakfast buffet there and we liked it but it wasn't anything special or amazingly delicious. It was nice to have a good variety of food choices for the family, so if you have a picky eater the buffets are a nice way to give them a chance to try a little bit of everything. There are some unique to Africa items on the breakfast buffet and those were tasty (and we are not super adventurous eaters but we enjoyed it) but the rest of the food was pretty standard american breakfast food. Food that in most cases you can't really mess up.

Pros- Buffet service so everyone has something to eat and no complainers, no wait to eat once seated and if you're a big eater you should be able to get what you think is your money's worth

Cons- buffet so you have to wait in line while to grab food, service is slow but could just be our experience, if you don't eat a lot it's overpriced even on disney standards, restaurant can be loud

We found our server to be slow when it was time to pay and/or get refills. Overall impression, I would not go back. If you want to eat at AK, go for Sanaa instead at Kidani. Much better food and service IMO.

There is enough of what I call bland food to satisfy people who don't have adventurous appetites. Before our 1st trip there people were warning me about hot and spicy food there. It can be a tad hot and a bit spicy but nothing really over the hill and it has zebra domes. That alone is enough to make my return list.

There is a good mix of typical food and non-typical food. We love it, and even before my kids got adventurous, they found plenty.

Boma is amazing. I've gone for both breakfast and dinner. The one thing that sets them apart is they serve a lot of traditional African food that you can try.

If your family is not adventurous in eating, it probably would be a waste for you. That being said, for those familes that are open to trying different foods, its an amazing opportunity to try lots of foods you normally would not get the chance. They also have a kids area with standard fare and plenty of non adventurous foods as well for adults. It gives you the option to try what you wish.
However, if that is not your thing, then I would definitely eat at a different restaurant where you would enjoy it much more.

Not a buffet fan but I really enjoy Boma (so many different soups, salads & dressing, cous-cous, boboti) and Biergarten (love German food) every once in a while, specifically for their unique country specific offerings. If that's not you, then pick another restaurant, there are so many to choose from. Good luck.

People here really love it. Josh gave it a nice review recently on Easy WDW.

My husband and I did not like it. I swear everything tasted like it was doused in cinnamon. We left hungry because we didn’t like the taste of most things we tried. I’ve seen raves about the watermelon rind, and I nearly gagged on it. It looked and tasted like something you’d compost. The ribs tasted like somebody melted cinnamon red heart candies and poured it on top.

I just see so many positive reviews of the place that I wonder if we just hit it on a bad night. But a few years after dining there, I tried tenderloin tips from the South Africa booth at the Food & Wine Festival, and it had that nasty cinnamon flavor like everything I hated at Boma. So IDK, perhaps Disney’s take on African food is just not for my tastebuds.

The review on Easy WDW showed how you can see chefs preparing everything fresh next to the buffet tables. I think that’s an appealing touch. I just don’t want to risk spending another $40+ on myself and taking all the time and effort to go there and find all that yucky cinnamon flavor again.

African and Indian food clearly have their own unique spices that are rarely found in food from other countries and. Many people like those flavors, and many do not. If you don't like those spices, thats a good thing to know and to avoid.

I agree completely! DH likes it, but you must like those types spices to fully enjoy it. I don't like all my food to taste similar - starts getting blah for me. So many enjoy it though, so it has to be spices that you enjoy. I do go once in a while with DH so he can get his fix though! :) It's just not for me - IMO, would not call it adventuresome eating - mostly common foods in the dishes.

I find the food excellent but its certainly not for everyone. Not to offend anyone but I find many people love rather bland foods. When I travel to the mid west and parts of the east I find it difficult to find decent food. Lots of simple bland staple food items. Spicy for many means it has salt and pepper. I live out west where its common for food to have bold strong flavors. The good thing about Disney is there is a huge variety of restaurants for everyone's taste.

For something at Animal Kingdom you might try Rain Forest Cafe which is very good and not the unusual African foods. Yak & Yeti is excellent if you enjoy Asian foods.
