My DH, DD and DS and i are spending one night at the AKL before driving to Vero Beach for a week. Considering we are a bit budget conscious, which should we do? I appreciate any advice you might have....

If you are budget concious then the set price of Boma would work well for you.

If you want to go to Jiko, you didn't mention the age of your son. If he can sit still for a good two hours, and be quiet so as not to disturb other diners, then give Jiko a try.

Our family loves both Jiko and Boma. Jiko gets the nod for a better overall dining experience (food quality, service, atmosphere), however it certainly is more expensive. Although if you just order entrees and no drinks, your bill may be only slightly more than a dinner at Boma. If you are on a budget, I would suggest Boma. You still will get a wonderful food experience there, with plenty of offerings for both the adventerous and non-adventerous eater. You did not mention the age of your DS, but Boma does have a nice selection of kid-friendly food.

Well, DD(7) and DD(13) would probably like the Boma more because of the kid-friendly food. Although DD(7) really loves a rare steak!! :rotfl2: I don't think that my kids will sit still in a restaurant that long. Maybe my husband and i can sneak back to Jiko's another trip, just the two of us.

We did both Boma and Jiko on our last trip, and really liked both. Jiko was very expensive, though. If you're worried about your budget, choose Boma. I also wouldn't have wanted to have taken my children to Jiko -- they would have been bored and it would have made an expensive meal much less enjoyable for me.

We ate at Boma twice last week! DH loved it, and it was very kid friendly. Their desserts are out of this world. We loved the banana bread pudding, the coconut tiramisu and the zebra domes. I don't think you can go wrong there. DS7 can have prime rib at Boma - it was very good.

Do I need to make a PS for the Boma for that night?

Sigh.

Boma is a good place for everyone, never been to Jiko so I can't comment on the food.

Yes it is a really good idea to have a PS.. then you will be able to get into the restuarant when you want to eat and not have to wait an hour or more.
