which would you prefer with an almost 3yo in tow. I would prefer (I think) to go to Jiko, but I'm concerned that it's not as kid friendly as Boma. He is pretty good at restaurants. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated!
Boma is loud which is nice when you don't want to worry about your child making noise. Jiko is much quieter. My children prefer the cookie/brownie/zebra dome type desserts at Boma. The white chocolate kid's puzzle dessert at Jiko did not impress my younger kids that much. My boys all enjoyed Jiko but would choose to dine at Boma every time if given the choice. I would think that to a 3 year old-- Jiko would seem a long and boring experience. But a chance to go up to the buffet and choose their foods might seem exciting. On the other hand, if you have a child that just needs some quiet after the over-stimulation of the parks you might need to consider Jiko. Either choice is going to provide you a great dining experience, so enjoy!
My daughter had just turned three when we went to Jiko. She did great! We were seated at a lovely semi-circular booth, and she sat between us. The waiter was very attentive to her, and the children's menu was really extensive. The meal is slow-paced, so judge whether or not your dd can sit for about 90 minutes or so.
I think both restaurants are good, so you should enjoy either of them. However, I think the atmosphere at Boma is much easier with kids. Also, if your child is under 3, Boma is a freebie for him. At Jiko you would have to order a separate child's meal, or allow him to graze from your plates. Get those freebies while you can! Children under 3 eat for free at any of the WDW buffets.
It entirely depends on your child. If your kid can't go to Mc Donalds without getting antsy and wanting down, skip Jiko. If your child is used to eating out and has no problem enjoying a meal at a restaurant that takes at least an hour without getting fussy or ansty, Jiko will be fine.
Either way, book an early seating and get there early. The line at Boma can get ridiculous, even with a PS. We've also had waits at Jiko of half an hour with a PS--and that's just to be seated. So book before your child will be hungry!
Also, have a back up plan in case he's having a bad day.
