Boma or Jiko

Which restaurant would you recommend, Boma or Jiko? We are 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 6 and 7). Also, do you think either of these restaurants are good for kids?

If your kids are younger, I'd go with Boma.
The buffet allows for so many more choices, I'm sure they will find something they like.

Since Boma is a buffet, there are a lot of options for adults and children.

And the food is great!

with kids that young, I would say prolly Boma is a better bet. while there were very young kids at Jiko the one time we ate there, the atmosphere is a little more adult in nature.

unless of course they are gourmands. in which case they don't need to worry about kiddie foods at the buffet.

I did NOT care for Jiko at all when we went last month. I would say Boma for more variety. Jiko was very quiet, probably the most quiet out of all of our meals.

I was going to say Boma, but just checked the Jiko menu and it has the perfect meal for my two DDs (6 and 4): Seared Salmon - with Mac & Cheese, Veggies, and Fruit

That being said, we took them to Boma on our last trip, and they enjoyed it.

Both are perfectly fine for well behaved children. Jiko is dark, quiet with an excellent menu and wine list. It is one of the quieter restaurants at WDW. The appetizers are the stars here; the entrees are not as good as the appetizers (this has remained consistent through all of our meals and all of the menu changes here).

Boma is bright, noisy, huge selection of food. The children's pod has fairly typical fare but the rest of the sections offer some unique and taste dishes. We enjoy the food here very much but I wouldn't recommend it to people who were not very adventurous as 90% of the adult offerings are going to be unusual (but excellent).

Really going on opposite sides of the spectrum there, OP.

Boma is a buffet, which by nature is on the loud/hectic side.
Jiko is a signature restaurant and happens to be one of the more relaxing, quiet and romantic-ish restaurants.
With kids your age I would go with Boma.

Jiko is our favorite restaurant at Disney. I had a fillet there last time and it was WAY better that the one I had at LaCellier. We consider it a "must do" for every trip.

Objectively, Jiko is clearly the "better" restaurant when judged by traditional standards of quality, but that doesn't necessarily make it the correct choice in this situation. With children that young, Boma seems like the perfect place. Jiko deserves its title as a "signature." It's quiet, romantic and clearly geared toward adults. I don't mean to imply that kids are not welcome, but your clan will undoubtedly feel more comfortable at Boma, a buffet designed for families.

I love Jiko and consider it one of Disney's best restaurants, but Boma is also fantastic. It's easily my favorite buffet, offering better variety and food quality than all of its competitors. There are plenty of options for all palates, but Boma has enough African and African-inspired dishes to appeal to adventurous eaters. It's a giant leap beyond the standard prime rib and carved ham at Crystal Palace or 1900 Park Fare.

Well said! We thoroughly enjoy our meals at Jiko.

However, another underrated buffet is at Trail's End/Crockett Tavern. And this is coming from folks who regularly go to V&A. Go figure.

I'm making this same decision for my next trip. I think I'm going with Boma, as we are a larger and more rowdy group.

There are "children's foods" available, but I suggest encouraging your children to be adventerous and try some of the "flavors of Africe".

I've eaten at both many,many times and it is like comparing apples to oranges. They are not comparable. One is a higher end signature and one is a buffet, granted a good buffet.

It depends on your children. Are they well behaved? Do you want to clean up for dinner or do you want to go in park attire? Jiko is a little fancier...not fancy by any means it is still suitable for families but it is quitier and children are expected to behave, there is still a kids menu, and kids are welcomed at all Disney places!

personally i would pick Jiko, but I do love Boma too, it just depends what I am in the mood for.
