Boma-Flavors of Africa

hello all!

my family and i are trying to decide where to eat in the park. I came across Boma, at the animal kingdom lodge, and it seems to be a great place to dine! However, my family is a little weary that the food will be too 'exotic', and no one would find anything they like.

For anyone who has eaten there, what would you say? Is it worth it? Will kids be able to find food? Is it 'too exotic'?

thanks guys!

DH and I ate there in Oct (pics and review in my Oct link) and we didnt like the flavors at all...too much sweet spice, cinnamon and vanilla in the foods...I dont like my entrees to taste like desserts...the soups were heavily flavored with red pepper and that put me off too

oh! It's yummy! DH is picky and although Boma is not his favorite place he can always find something. DD and I love to try lots of different things. Dishes range from familiar flavors to slightly spicy. Go for it, try a little of lots of things and go back for more of your favorites. They have a kids "pod" that has chicken nuggets and mac n cheese and spaghetti if needed.

I'll add another YES, we think it's great. I took our party of 9 there on their first trip to the world we had two sets of grandparent (50-60), 3 in my generation (30-40) and two kids 3 and 5 and we all found something to love. The gumbo was soooo good I had 3 cups.

They all liked it so much we have gone back on all our trips and I make it a point to go when I'm on my solo trips as well.

Highly, Highly recommend it.

We tried it for the first time this past Sept. DH and I didn't love it. We just didn't care for the particular seasonings and spices that seem to be in most of the dishes there. We also found a lot of the dishes sweet and overly spiced. The kids did fine as they have most of the offerings at the kids stations.

We love it. I don't think most of the foods are all that exotic though. There are also a lot of "American" type foods like Mac & Cheese, Chicken Nuggets, Pasta, Salad, Meats, etc.

You can also use advanced google to search for other posts on the same topic - I guess BOMA just has that "fear factor" Is it too exotic? I am the worst at trying new things, I am a horribly picky eater (hate spices, hate veggies) but from reviews and pixs here on the DIs, I knew DH would love it, and dd would find something to eat...

and I think its going to be a "must do" I loved the atmosphere - I loved the different items - and DH loved it!! He loves soups, and they have soups there!

They have a great selection of fresh fruits:

I dont remember what it was next to the beef ribeye roast - but it was delicious!!

The desserts get rave reviews always! I will let you know there is a caution sign that the desserts contain alcohol - I sure didnt taste any alcohol - I love after dinner drinks, and fun froo foo drinks - and I've bought those candies that have liquour in them - I didnt taste any liquor flavoring - but dd still didnt want to eat them!!

We enjoyed our dinner there! It's a jumping place and the food is eclectic. You can get simple mac and cheese OR interesting African spiced food..it's up to you. We loved it and our server was very attentive.

This is our favorite dinner at WDW!! The soups are amazing, salads are fun, dinner food is so yummy, and the desserts are in a whole class of their own! Even the kids section is delicious.:thumbsup2

IMHO, Boma has the best quality & best for your money buffet at WDW!

It's called Bobotie and it is one of my favourites at Boma.

The only problem our family has at Boma is saving enough room for the great desserts. :rotfl2:

Give it a try. Like any buffet, they always have things available for kids and you can always fall back on that if you find the tastes too exotic.

Make sure you arrive early and spend some time in the gift shop and walking around the resort both of which are fabulous.

We loved it. My only criticism was that they didn't have a beef option that wasn't red, but I hear this has changed. The night we went they had prime rib, which everyone said was great.

That being said, I found plenty of things I enjoyed. Well, actually we found too much too eat. We spent the rest of the evening not wanting to move around much.

If you do go to Boma's I would suggest spending some time exploring the animal savannahs there. Also, the store there has many options that you won't find elsewhere.
