Boma and Tusker House - both or pick one?

On our next trip, I was planning to take the kids (ages 8 and 11) to Tusker House for lunch. The younger one still likes the characters and even though they are picky eaters I think they can find something on the buffet to make it worth it.

Now it looks like we will be staying at AKL. I have heard many people raving about Boma. We don't typically eat at the other resorts (no car) so we have never eaten here and probably only would if we are staying at AKL.

Since both of them are African themed buffets, would you do both or just one? And if just one, which would you choose? (We are only going to a limited amount of TS places. It will be OOP.)

TIA!

Our family loves Boma(our kids are the same age as yours). We also do Tusker House every vacation, but we do breakfast. Since it is OOP for you, breakfast will be more affordable and you will have a very different experience than Boma.

We do breakfast at tusker house & supper at Boma. We love them both & they are a must for every trip. We have dined at nearly every establishment at WDW & these are in our top 10. Top 5 when you account for our budget (we can't afford to eat @ some of our favorites 'regularly') & the fact we typically travel with DS4 & DS9

My kids (ages 10 and 12) and I like them both and don't find them redundant. And although we usually eat breakfast in the room/on the run, Boma is my favorite breakfast spot. It's also one of our favorite dinner spots. Tusker House is good for days that we want to have one main meal mid-afternoon instead of dinner. Haven't yet had breakfast there so I can't comment on that.

I'd skip Boma this time and do Tusker House because of the characters.
But honestly if the budget is tight, skip the buffets, do QS and snacks when you all get hungry and spend more time at character meet and greets, rides and attractions.
Kids can't eat very much anyways and a buffet is quite expensive, the kids section on the buffet is usually chicken nuggets, mac and cheese or spaghetti, if they don't want to try any of the Indian or African foods there may be little point, unless you have your heart set on going.

We love Tusker House! I would do a late brft at there, like 10:15- 10:30, then you get some brft items, but they will start changing over to lunch, with more Afican themed food, so you can try some different things as well as basics. (DD loves the special juice!)Then it's more like brunch. You can do Safari, LK, Pangani trail before and/or after since they are right there. BTW, if you have tine on your trip, plan a resort day to hang at AKL because there are a lot of kids activities like making an animal feeder they use there, African drumming, etc. and of course the animal viewing areas or savannah view from your room if you have it.

Tusker house
It's in the park
you can book late breakfast at 10:30 and have some of the lunch offering too

I would skip Boma. It used to be good, but it's gone downhill. Way too many tables crammed together, long lines at the buffet and service isn't great. I'm an adventurous eater but didn't like much other than the salads. DD is also a picky eater and didn't enjoy much of anything there. People do rave about it, and I was excited to return after a good experience several years ago, but it was a let down for us :(

Tusker House was very good though!

My family LOVE Tusker House. It's my girls and DH #1 buffet at WDW. We usually go for dinner and only DH is an adventurous eater. I would go there only for the corndog nuggets! Yum!

The character interaction is also the best we experienced.
