We haven't eaten there before. Here are my questions/things I am confused about:

1. If you have a time before the park opens (ours is 8:10), you go in early . How long before the reservation will they let you in? What if you finish eating before the park opens? Free to roam? Or held in a pen?

2. Preordering food...My husband is concerned this means it will have been prepared way in advance and will be less than fresh. Any actual experiences here will be appreciated.

3. Some people in our group aren't breakfast eaters. Can they order a drink and be done?

4. How long does the entire experience take? I know this varies. I am looking for a general idea of what is reasonable.

Regarding number 2, the food comes out very fresh! And number 4, we are a party of 2, so I'm sure it takes longer for big families but for lunch pre-order we found we get our food within 5-10 mins of sitting down (again this is a party of 2. And in August - a less busy time) but we usually spend an hour in there, just eating and chilling.

When we went in January, we also had an 8:10 reservation. We had our magic bands scanned to prove our reservation, and anyone with a time before 8:45 or something were allowed to get in line. As soon as they started letting people in for reservations, we were allowed to enter (I think it was about 7:50). We managed to get photopass pictures in front of the castle with no one else in the background before going to check in for our reservation (we got to the check-in around 8:05).

We finished eating around 8:35-8:40, and were allowed to leave and go where we'd like. The 7DMT was already running, so we walked on to it with no wait - the ride wasn't even full. By 9:15 we had already been on 7DMT, Peter Pan's Flight and Winnie the Pooh (3 rides which can have long wait times).

I wouldn't say pre-ordering at breakfast is as big of a deal, but if you have a lunch reservation, you need to pre-order! When we went for lunch, the line-up of people waiting to order was out the doors and halfway across the bridge - I'd guess they stood in that line for ~45 minutes. We had pre-ordered, so we walked past all of them and straight into the restaurant. We also pre-ordered for breakfast, so we were able to bypass quite a few people and managed to get a table in the West Wing (it fills up really quickly).

As of right now, there is no rule stating each person must order a meal at breakfast. We did last time since we were on the dining plan, but we barely touched the pastry plate that comes with your meal. I think on our upcoming trip our plan is to split a breakfast entree since we'll be paying out of pocket. So yes, you can just order a drink. I have a feeling that as more and more people do this, Disney will put something in place stating you have to purchase per person, but that hasn't happened yet so enjoy!

We were there for about half an hour, but it can take as long or as quick as you'd like it to.

Does the staff still come outside to greet guests when they open?

The challenge with freshness is if part of your group's food is done, and part is not, they do hold it until the whole cart is ready to be delivered. So freshness can vary wildly.

This issue has nothing to do with pre-order, though.
