Boeing 747-400

Oh cool, didn't know they had that arrangement. Nice 747-400 in the background!

i thought it might be a 747-8, but I looked it up. That's actually the special livery on a Korean Air 747-400 for the British Museum. It says "Passionate Wings to Culture". Something must have been lost in translation.

bcla - speaking of maneuvering on the ground - I remember that the 777's have forward cameras so that the pilots can have the same visual as if in smaller aircraft. Could be the same for the A380?

Nice!

I think they have a tail camera with the video available for passengers to view.

However, it's not simply about being able to see everything, but that taxiing with the engines isn't as precise as a tug. There's barely enough room for an A380 at some airports. I think it's also more fuel efficient. It doesn't look like there are too many obstructions for this plane, but it's getting a tug anyways.

source? i remember airbus had to keep the length of the wings shorter than they wanted so that it would fit in most airports. The only plane i know that has a longer than usual wingtip is the 777X which is still in development but its got folded up wings like the F18s on an aircraft carrier.

A380 are big that they often hit other planes, most of them are being escorted by cars just incase...

A380s are on their way out though haha. Point to point is dominating over the hub network.

Not understanding you finding humour in your own comment and I've never seen an A380 escorted by cars. Are you a Boeing employee?
We have flown on the A380 many times, twice this year already, London to Singapore and Dubai to London. They are a superb aircraft, quiet and spacious. We will deliberately choose a flight because it employs the A380 rather than, say, the Boeing 777. Haven't had a flight using the 747 for a few years now.

Overall jet travel gets good fuel mileage, but fuel is still the biggest cost. 747s use the most fuel per passenger, so very few use them anymore. There are probably a few 100 sitting out in Arizona for cheap sale if you want to buy one

I deliberately chose Virgin Atlantic for my flights because they fly 747-400 aircraft whilst BA fly 777s, which always feel like cigar tubes to me

What humor? A380s do get escorts at some airports.

i dont understand the personal attack asking me on if i am a boeing employee... what does A380 being escorted at airports have to do with boeing employee?

747-8 doesnt have wing tips sticking up, and the engines cover have chevrons on them(like the 787). A still get my A319/A320s mixed up... :P

I did notice that it didn't have the strakes on the nacelles, which would indicate the GEnx engine.

Any preference for engine? I'm a General Electric guy, but I guess some prefer Pratt or Rolls.

GE all the way! haha. My dad used to work on one of the RR engines. says companies pay millions just for like .01% more efficiency in the engines.
I dont fly many airplanes but GE90X is my most impressive engine. The size of it is just amazing. heres my favorite pic of it.

I understand that Pratt & Whitney is way behind on efficiency, which is why their share of the commercial aviation market is so low. They do make it up with military sales. They haven't even tried with some of the newer planes. And efficiency is why the 747 is generally becoming a relic except for cargo.

for airliners, its all about how their system works. the 747-8 are using GenX engines. but i dont think airliners want a 4 engine plan anymore. Instead of Hub to Hub, its now all point to point. i think the current market is all about the A350s, B777, and B787s.

hehe, SP are cute. I always wonder if they could make a 777SP... :P 737 length with GE90X! lol.
