I might be in the minority here but I don't like to see it go this far on either sex...

Ewwww... that is so gross!

(Yes, thats just MY opinion)

Yuck. I mean, being in great shape is one thing, but looking like the Incredible Hulk on steroids is quite another.;)

Tried to select both....

Picture 1 - She looks ridiculous
Picture 2 - He looks ridiculous

but you have it set to single choice only, so I went with the one most are selecting. These people are narcissistic to the ridiculous.

I like to be healthy and in shape (maybe one day I'll get those killer 6-pack abs once I drop this keg) but that's just...... taking it too far. Has anyone seen a pic of mr. universe or is it mr. olympia? He's FREAKISH! 300 POUNDS of nothing but grossness! I bet it hurts his neck to turn his head...hehehe

A close girlfriend of mine is a bodybuilder - she looks like the lady in the picture above when she is photographed in competitions - which I think is a little over the top. Certainly not something I would aspire to.

That being said, when she isn't flexing her muscles, and she is fully clothed, she looks VERY fit and lean. I'd like to look like her, minus the flexed muscles. :)

My vote is for whatever turns ya on! (or makes them happy!) :)

I think they oil their bodies and "pump" up the muscles for a shoot.

While I wouldn't want to be that muscular I will have to say I wouldn't mind a few muscles on my DH. ;)

Personally I think bodybuilders and power lifters look rediculous. A little over the top. I worked with a power lifter once who could not even walk down a flight of stairs because his legs were so big. He looked like an old man trying to get down the stairs.
But on the other hand some people are into it and think they look good. So..."to each his own" I guess.

At least they are not couch potato's.

I think what is worse is how thin people want to be. That doesn't look too good in my opinion either.

My vote is other, that is...EEEKKKKKKKK!!!!! But I am all for good fitness, just natural fitness. I hope they're not using dangerous supplements to do that.

When my DH and I were dating, he did some definition
power lifting but was nothing like this-just a very nice
looking body. He and another guy started a business
videotaping body building contests and I helped with some.
It was all I could do to keep from laughing at some of the
unnatural physiques. Whatever else you can say about these
folks though-they work hard at it!

Double yuck! It's nice to have some muscles, but that's just a little too much. I don't think it's attractive at all.

Are bodybuilders tested for steroid use? Just wondering.

I voted "whatever makes them happy" but want to add the caveat "as long as they are doing it naturally."

I don't particularly care for that overdone bodybuilder look on men or women.

Out of curiousity, Dan what makes them narcissistic?

Bodybuilding isn't just for meat heads who live in the gym. Someone who is serious about bodybuilding makes alot of sacrifices in their life in order to get to the point of competing. Between workouts at the gym, sleeping patterns, food intake, and suppliments, it isn't just lifting weights in the gym, it's a lifestyle.

My ex got into bodybuilding a little over a year ago, and he's very passionate about it. While I'm not the biggest fan in the world, I do have respect for the amount of dedication that he has for it. He's 19 (nearly 20) and won't even touch a drop of alcohol for what it might do to his body (and he has drank in the past). Granted it's extreme, but I would never have dedication to do that. (That came off as me sounding like an alcoholic, lol, but I mean more for getting my butt to the gym 5 times a week and restricting what I eat).

The pictures you see aren't how these people look year round. A few months before their workout switches and they go on special diets to look like that. They're also oiled up and covered in bronzer. When they aren't competing they look fit...large, but not freakish like in those pictures.

Personally, yeah I do think it's a bit much, but I wouldn't say that they're narcissistic for doing it. People don't realize the lifestyle changes that go into being a bodybuilder.

websters defines narcissism as undue dwelling on one's own self..or love of one's own body..

based on that I'd have to agree with Dan..

this sounds like undue dwelling on one's self to me...

Actually a lot of people into body building aren't into it because they love themselves, or love to look at themselves. it's more of an art form to them. Like a sculptor, can sculpt glass or rock or clay, they choose muscles as their medium. And I do beleive as long as there isn't any illegal drugs involved, it is much like an art form. Obviously they can't go shaping other peoples muscles, so they have to do it to their own bodies, which gives people the idea that it's all about them. I know people who have said that it's just amazing to watch something (certain muscles) grow and shape into form and watch it evolve through hard work, the work just happens to be exercise rather than cutting/grinding/blowing glass, etc. So I say whatever makes them happy, as long as they aren't taking drugs that might harm them.

tricia.
