From Tom over at DTB

During the Q&A, Chapek was also asked how Walt Disney World would be able to scale up attendance given reports of heavy crowds already. In response, he stated “we don’t think we’re going to have any problem at all…that is not something that keeps any of us up at night.”

Seems to me their thinking is, “let’s pack the crowds in and deal with the stuff that eats crowds later…”

Bookings are at 2019 numbers with half the experience. Money is coming in. People are coming in. I would be sleeping fine at night too.
Translation: We don't think we'll have trouble keeping up counting the money.
Yup. It's funny how honest corporations get when talking to shareholders...

It could / should backfire though. If enough guests walk away with the feeling of "well that wasn't really worth the $10k+ we just dropped", they will see a decrease in short term repeat visits.

I know there has been plenty of talk on here from visitors over the last 9 months about "fast passes not being needed" and "wait times are exaggerated" All of that may be true, but let's see if those feelings change as capacity starts to ramp up over the summer / leading in the 50th and holiday season....

The only thing with more inelastic demand is gas. The people will come to Disney. If you stop going, someone else will. The diehards may not go back as often as they used to, but they'll still get the bug every few years.

Sadly, you're right.

But I can say from personal perspective, our November trip was booked with rented points so we could check out DVC. We will still be doing the trip, but have no desire to continue looking into DVC ownership. But yes, someone else will buy that unit we may have.

Yeah... we did a trip to Kentucky and Tennessee during Easter. We currently have a trip to Disney booked for Christmas, but after going and seeing new states, eating, and going to Dollywood for the price it'd be for ONE PERSON to go to Disney, it had us seriously questioning going to Disney this year. We may distribute that cash over a few trips and return for Easter, when masks should be gone and normal entertainment will be back.

Also - not starting an argument about masks with my comment. Just saying we'd rather go when things are normal than shell out all that money and have it be a fraction of the experience.

Totally understandable.

Also, RIP to this thread as it's been moved :rotfl2:

we are only going now because we have DVC points we need to use otherwise we wouldn’t be going until the characters and shows are back.

With the amount of CMs they have recalled I hope they open up all the crowd eaters/ restaurants in a few months.

The relaxed mandate could allow bigger crowds to gather. Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Bob Chapek said he expects to see an immediate increase in the number of people allowed inside domestic theme parks following the CDC move. “Today’s guidance,” he said Thursday, “is very big news for us, particularly if anyone has been in Florida in the middle of summer with a mask on.”

It would be nice to see some park hours get extended. We were there last month and it was weird leaving HS at 8:00pm while it was still light out. Same for AK that closes at 7:00pm.
