Boats not running to DS after 8:00 due to the Drone Show

Silly me. I was all concerned about the water level for the boats to/from Disney Springs, but now I accidentally discovered that due to the Drone Show, the boats stop running at 8:00PM.

Now, I know the drone show is temporary and will end in a few months, but what if they decide to keep it? Will they always close down the boats at 8:00. Hum.....something that is going to have to be researched by the powers to be at WDW.

I think Disney already knows what their plan is concerning the Drone show and the boats on the Sassagoula River. This 8 PM closure is for departures from DS was announced back in April and is scheduled to end September 2nd.

Note the last boats leaving the resorts headed to DS would be at 7:30 PM.

I find the buses more central than the boat dock for POFQ at DS.
And you might find it quicker to take the bus back to POFQ in the evening. I know we do.

No it is not the end for the boats after 8 PM. This currently is a Summer Only offering and again as I posted above it ends on September 2nd.

This is how rumors get started so don't mention this to a Disney bus driver...

Losing the boats would've been a big disappointment for me if I was staying at one of the affected resorts. I know buses may be faster in some/most instances, but I love me a nice boat ride in WDW, it just puts me in the WDW mood. In the future I am going to be hesitant to book the PO resorts (if I go moderate) over summer just in case.

The boats were not running in early May on our last trip (OKW) and it was disappointing because we enjoy them. But one look at the water level in the canal and it was clear why that decision was made. And temps became high that week too - mid-90’s.

I really hope the drone show is a success and stays for more than the summer. But stopping boats from running between DS and OKW/PO is not a good thing - especially around dinner time when folks want to get to DS or back. We prefer avoiding the busses to and from DS any way and anytime we can.

I wonder if they could just stop the boats running from like 7:30-8:30 and then pick it up again to get people back to their resorts? Oh well, they'll figure out something if the drone show continues.

The 9 minute Drone shows are at 9 PM and 10:45 PM so not sure that a pause from 7:30 - 8:30 makes any sense. Disney managed to work out boat transportation at the MK around fireworks so there is always hope.

Which is most cost-effective? The boats or busses to the eligible resorts?

It is disappointing when the boats to DS are advertised as a benefit of staying at these resorts. Disney cannot control the rain, but this it can. Staying at POR next August for 8 nights.
