I am just back from a 3 night stay at the Boardwalk. I had a studio 2097. This resort is badly in need of a refresh. The hall carpets are very worn and stained. My studio was very dark and musty smelling. The carpet and furniture was stained and the sleeper sofa was placed where the little table should had been obviously to cover something up. The fixture about my bed had a bulb missing. The molding in the bathroom near the toilet had some stuck on it that I didn't want to know. This resort is almost 10yrs old and hasn't had a refresh? My friend was staying at the BC and it was so clean and beautiful. I love the location of the Boardwalk, but will not be staying there until the clean it up. I am going to sell my small contract I have there too. Mousekeeping really needs some work. :confused3

It opened in June 1996 I believe, so it's almost 13 years old. They did a renovation around the time I first stayed there, 2000 or 2001, they replaced the carpets then. They also did exterior repainting a few years ago because of a construction defect in the siding. I believe they said at the annual meeting that renovations will be starting in May.

We LOVE BWV. Unfortunately for us we knew so little bout it when we purchased our contract at SSR ( we like SSR too but kids like BWV more). We always try to stay there when on property and we are going to add on a 100 pt contract there HOPEFULLY sometime this spring.
I read alot on the Boards here and it seems that so many ppl really Appreciate BWV for it location and beauty. Which equals ALOT of wear and tear to the resort.
which leads me my question, What is BWV's average occupency I mean daily just how booked is it? Does someone know? It seems to always be "Booked" but curious bout the average % of it.pirate:

Just riding your coat tails there Lenc324 not trying to be :offtopic:

We were at BWV the week of Jan 17 -24 in rooms 2089 and 2087. They do need to be updated and repaired. The sink in the bathroom dripped, one of the bathroom doors would not lock, the shower dripped, the dryer was very noisy and put out alot of heat into the room making it very hot. The stove burners are not level and the sink sprayer sprayed a small stream of water out when it was not in use. We had a pool view and a view of the work that was going on of the outside of the resort.

Ughh. We are leaving in 61 days for our first ever BWV stay. Sigh. I hope we get a decent studio.

Last year, I was thoroughly disgusted with VWL (our home resort) ... left for vacation planning to do a 50 point add on, returned from vacation planning to sell VWL contract. The sofa bed was awful, we had dirty dishes galore, fuzz balls in the corners big enough to house small children. We thought we'd give a different resort a try this year ... guess we picked the wrong one.

I know Disney Mousekeeping is very busy, but this is such a priority for members and I don't get why Disney doesn't take more pride in this. Turning a room over takes time and care. I rarely get a dirty room with Marriott even at a Fairfield Inn. I hope Disney really works on this esp at the older resorts.

A couple years ago these threads were all over the board about the time we took out trip.

So I went and paid close attention. I looked at the edges of the carpets - where people don't walk - in the corners and niches - the carpet isn't (generally) stained (though it is in spots, and will be within a day of them putting in new carpet - hundreds of children carrying drinks, ice cream and chocolate through the halls is going to stain a carpet pretty much the minute it goes in) or worn - its made to look that way. Its a very strange mottled color. That was also the trip we got the best maintained room we've ever been in - not what I was expecting from the parade of poor room reports.

DVC doesn't do a total refresh of rooms - they refresh them one at a time - and they never make really significant changes - i.e. the decor has been pretty much the same since opening (no more colored towels at OKW, slowly replacing tube TVs with flatscreens).

I think it is supposed to look like sand.....mottled....with footprints. And you are right, people don't take care of anything and it will look the same with in a few months....when I am there there are constantly cleaning it.
As for things being wrong in the room you have to report those things while you are there so they can hopefully fix them....

IIRC someone that attended the December owners meeting said that BWV was schedule for some refurb work this year. Kind of depressing to see reports like this as a BWV owner for 10 years and seeing what we pay for annual dues compared to some other resorts.

We were there Jan 16 -26. We were in, I think, room 1121? A one bedroom, ground floor. They had definitely been replacing carpeting in the hallways. You can easily see what sections had been replaced by the different colors. Our room looked like it had been refreshed too, but it's so hard to tell since they always replace everything with identical stuff!

They also had a whole wing of the section we were in that they were cleaning on the outside, huge scafolding, pressure washing and stuff.

So they definitely are working on it!

We are booked at BWV mid Feb and are desperately trying to get a spot in our home resort BCV but after 6 months on a waiting list still no luck - After reading this report I will be calling every day up to arrival to get away from BWV. :crazy2:

We've stayed at BWV twice in the last six months. They only complaint I have...tube tvs. I love the BWV. Maybe, we've just been lucky...but, our rooms were fine.

If you are staying on points and find a problem in your villa, call Maintenance or Housekeeping, whichever is most appropriate. If you don't call, problems don't get resolved. And when they are notified of these problems, they usually get fixed rather quickly.

However, as we found on both our recent DVC stays - Housekeeping are about as useful as a chocolate tea-pot and are not at all bothered about any problems a guest may have. We have very little faith in Housekeeping and are now used to hiding everything we own so it doens't get taken by mistake and then we never get it back, and re-making beds that are so poorly made I wish they hadn't bothered stripping it in the 1st place.

I was at the BWV MLK weekend, 5th floor BW view. Now I have read enough of the BWV needs a refresh threads, so I actually paid closer attention.

The carpet in the halls to our room looked to be in good condition, though I did notice some chocolate cake crums outside one of the GV doors that stayed there for a few days. Joked that the spotting of the crums meant we were heading in the right direction.:rotfl:

As for our room 5015/5017, the carpet was in great condition. The soft furniture looked new and going from the feel of the sofa in the living room part of the 1br it was newer(most comfortable sleeper sofa I have sat on in a DVC villa). Curtains also looked new.

The appliances, well you would have a problem setting a pan on the burners. All at various angles and the dryer died on me while using it. Yes I did call the maint. dept and alerted them to it along with a slow draining bathroom sink.

I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of our rooms.

I've been in the 5015/5017 room a few times. I think all the rangers with the burner elements are like that, guess housekeeping doesn't know the correct way to clean the drip pans.

We have been members since 1999, and took our first trip "home" in February 2000. Other than the occasional chipped shower tile in the last few years, the rooms have always been in fine condition. Mousekeeping does a great job, from towel animals to cleaning up our dirty dishes if we didn't have a chance to do them before we left for the parks. Last spring our son was on a restricted diet and was planning to cook all his meals in the apartment. When we checked in, our stove didn't work! (first time ever for that one, and of course it was the trip we really needed it). I called maintenance, explained the situation, and they had a maintenance person up within 20 minutes to repair it. And yes, they do rehab. A few years back, we were offered a free week at OKW if we would give up our BWV reservation, because they wanted to schedule that section of the villas for rehab. Love the Boardwalk! And I don't think we have just lucked out with our rooms, because we have been in a 2BR a couple of times a year for the last several. Heading down again in March.:stitch: :eeyore:

I've stayed at BWV twice, 2007 and 2008. While the rooms weren't in pristine shape they weren't in ill repair either, i had no real issues. The hallway carpet however was in rough condition. I too wish I had known about resales before I bought SSR, not that there is anything wrong with SSR, but I really enjoy BWV. I hope in the future to add on there.
