Boardwalk or WL?

Hi!

I am planning my honeymoon and I am trying to decide between Wilderness Lodge and the Boardwalk. I was convinced on WL until my mom suggested the Boardwalk. I've been to Disney many, many times but this will be my first time staying at a deluxe. Any advice will help.

Thanks!

Best wishes & congrats on your upcoming marriage!

We have stayed at both and loved both for different reasons.

WL is close to MK via boat and has a breath-taking lobby with a brook in it. Lots of little niches on the upper floors to sit and read or people watch. I felt it was more laid-back and relaxing. We enjoyed Artist Point for our "splurge" meal and hear good things about Whispering Canyon. DH really liked the theming (he's "outdoorsy.")

Boardwalk also has cool theming (I'm "beachy") and is right in the middle of the action. There is endless stuff to do just steps outside the hotel. We especially loved its location between Epcot and Disney Studios - 10 min walks to each. We were so busy going to the parks we didn't get a chance to try the restaurants there (Spoodles, Flying Fish, ESPN, Riverworks Brewery) except for the Boardwalk bakery (great sandwiches!)

Good luck choosing - I don't think you could make a bad decision either way!

Congrats on your upcoming marriage. I would love to try Boardwalk myself. We are staying at WL this summer. Boardwalk is much more expensive. Someday I hope to stay at Boardwalk, Beach Club, or Yacht Club. If I had to choose for my honeymoon, I would probably choose Boardwalk or Beach Club. That's just me though.

I think WL is MUCH more romantic than the boardwalk. In fact every time I've been there I've seen a bride and groom. The lobby is incredible..and there are lovely secluded spots to sit and cuddle on various levels. Just walking through those majestic doors..and hearing the lodge music. The Italian marble in the lobby...seven story tall totem poles..beautiful stone fireplace. The brook that starts inside the lobby, and then meanders outside..through spectacular rockscaped scenary..ultimately leading to the themed pool. Where you will find the replica Old Faithful geyser and Bay Lake. Each evening you will be able to see the Electric Water Pagent as it makes it's way around Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake to each of the MK resorts. You will be able to rent bikes at the marina and take the bike/walking trail to FW if you desire. There are also the seaprite and pontoon boat rentals offered. There is the option of the themed rockscaped pool(which has great slide) or a quiet pool at the Villas..along with hot tubs. It is an extremely relaxing resort. Yet..it's only a water launch away to the MK. We have stayed Poly, Beach Club, Caribbean Beach, FW cabins..and WL is our favorite resort.
I have visited the Boardwalk, and frankly..I found it's amenities are mostly out of the resort itself..meaning the boardwalk area. Which is a fine place to visit and have dinner or lunch..but I have no desire to stay in the resort itself. Strikes me as more of a business travel kind of spot. Not saying that's the only people who stay there, but it appears to me you will encounter more of that there. Also..and I'm just gonna say it. The pool...FREAKS ME OUT!:scared1: It's not really anything special..but the slide..well it's a CLOWN HEAD. It looks as if the clown is throwing up people when they come sliding out...kind of gross really. Just my opinion..but it doesn't scream romance to me. If I were going to choose a resort in that area it would be Beach Club..where you would have the proxmity to the Boardwalk area..but an entirely different hotel. My vote would be stay at the WL and visit the boardwalk for lunch or dinner if you want. ;)

How about a split stay? I've actually done splits between these two in one trip a few times ...WL for the days I wanted to spend more time at MK and BW for when I wanted to be closer to Epcot. :)

We're going to WL this June. For us, it's more relaxing, quieter, and everything is kind of self-contained. If it's raining, you don't have to go outside to get something to eat, or for something from the gift shop. WL is a little more removed from the hustle and bustle. If that's what you want on your honeymoon;) , then that's the place for you. If you're a couple that likes to go, go, go, then I'd go with Boardwalk. In addition to the amenities, you're close to Epcot, mini-golf, ESPN club. I guess it depends on how much time you plan on spending in the resort, and how much time you want to be out doing things. Good luck on your choice, and congrats on the wedding!

We just love the Boardwalk. I had my wedding there an it was super romantic. We satyed in the garden suites and they were spectacular.Once you are on the inside of the Inn the gardens are so beutiful and quiet. The quiet pool is truely that quiet. To me it is a much better location because it is next to EPCOT and MGM.There is so much to do with all the fun on the BW and Jellyrolls etc.

Now that being said we love the WL and have stayed there as well. I think it is a beautiful, peacfeul hotel. For a honeymoon I would pick BW but for the value and price WL wins. Plus it is closer to MK so it depends what location is important to you as well.

I love the WL. I have made 2 trips to Disney, one w/out kids for our honeymoon an one w/ kids a month ago. We stayed at WL both times and enjoyed it both times. It is quiet and beautiful; you can really relax when you are away from the parks. Transportation to the parks is quick, and we especially enjoy the boat ride to MK. At night you can see the water pagent on the lake. There are also some very friendly ducks wandering around that are fun to watch. It is the only place we want to stay.

If you want quiet, relaxing and a somewhat "rustic" feel I say WL. If you want to be going out at night, lots of restaurants and clubs I say Boardwalk. Mainly because my very favourite place is at Boardwalk. This is Jellyrolls. It is a dueling pianos bar and is awesome. But if you want more of a secluded romantic feel I think you want WL.

It really depends what you're looking for in a honeymoon. If you want quiet and romantic then the Wilderness Lodge is perfect. Make sure you don't get a room that overlooks the lobby though; those can be very loud due to the antics at Whispering Canyon Cafe. If you're looking for a little more action then the Boardwalk would be perfect and the Beach/Yacht Club just across the lake would be great as well. Those resorts are in a super location but can be romantic too. I think you also have to think about which are your favorite parks. We love Epcot so the access from the Boardwalk really can't be beat and if you love Hollywood studios, same applies. If you love the Magic Kingdom and plan on spending most of your time there then the Wilderness Lodge is much more convenient as you can just take the boat from the WL dock straight to the MK. It's a really nice ride. We've stayed at both WL and BWI and enjoyed our stays at both so I think you just have to decide what you like to do at Disney World and what your style is.

Either way congratulations and have a wonderful wedding and honeymoon!

Congratulations of your upcoming wedding and Disneymoon. Both resorts are wonderful. The BW has wonderful Garden Suites that are perfect for a romantic private honeymoon stay and they include a huge shower and jacuzzi tub.
