We have never been to WDW for July 4th before. Just wondering if they do anything special at the Boardwalk or DDT for that day? We are staying at the Dolphin.

Not generallly- You could certainly walk over to EPCOT from the Dolphin. You can see Illuminations (partially) from the right places near Epcot resorts.

DTD does not have much going on.

We will be at the Dolphin on the 4th too. Planning on a pool day and then a fireworks cruise that night. I'm sure it will hot and crowded during that time!

    1) Fireworks at MK and Epcot are very popular on July 3rd & 4th.
    2) A caution . . .
    . . . Epcot will be elbow-to-elbow
. . . MK frequently is at capacity, with no new guests allowed
    3) If going to either, get there early and don't leave.
  6. As others have said, not a whole lot of "special things" going on in that area.

We usually spend the 4th at either the POLY or GF. (This year, 4 rooms at the GF) We don't even think about going to the parks, we spend the day at the Pool and watch the great MK Fireworks from the resort.

Head to Epcot, will be insanely packed but so worth it. If you are there on July 3rd, head to MK. Its the same firework show as the 4th.

Only advice is to get there early. Last time we were at Disney during the 4th, MK was actually at capacity and had to turn people away. Another thing to note is you can watch the fireworks outside the park as well near the entrance.

Fireworks at MK are in line with MNSSHP pretty amazing if you can do it. It will be crowded, but I think worth it.

If for whatever reason you can't make it inside Epcot you can always watch their fireworks show from on the bridge just past the Boardwalk which is right before the International Gateway entrance.

And just FYI if you will be at the Swan/Dolphin on July 2 there's a special BBQ event there too:

    Stars & Stripes Celebration
    July 2, 2011
•Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels◦BBQ Bash at Fantasia Gardens Pavilion (3:00 - 8:00 pm)
Guests will enjoy playing classic carnival games and eating traditional BBQ foods while listening to a live band. Tickets will be available at event or for details and information, call 888-828-8850.

Thanks everyone for the tips. We are actually driving in on July 4th. Thought we'd do DHS and then maybe watch fireworks from the outside of Epcot.

I would try to book an Illuminations Cruise for Epcot or the fireworks cruise for MK. Or, make dinner reservations at California Grill at the top of the Contemporary for the best view or plan to be at the Poly beach to watch the fireworks over MK. We were there for the 4th of July last year. That morning the MK was doable, but got elbow to elbow packed around 5pm. Extremely hard to manuever and we actually saw a fight break out...not good to see at Disney.
