Having seen the Blue Man Group at the Venetian in Las Vegas a few years ago I was delighted to see they were bringing a show to Orlando but it hadn't opened when we went in 2007 and I didn't manage to fit it into the plans for last year. I was, therefore, even more excited to find a couple of months ago that there was to be a show at the O2 and duly booked tickets for Dad and myself.

Doors were due to open at 6:30 and as we would be wanting something to eat before the show I had a look at the O2 website for restaurants and came across Rodizio Rico which is a restaurant in the same style as Texas de Brazil in Orlando - it is an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant where you help yourself to salads and servers come round with cuts of meat on skewers which they carve at your table. Having Texas de Brazil pencilled in for our trip this year I decided this would be a great way to test the concept and I booked a table for us for 4:30.

We left home at 2:30 (half an hour before we needed to as I'm a wally and mucked up the times) and arrived at the O2 around an hour later, where we had a wander round and then sat down watching the dodgem cars until it was time to check in at the restaurant.

We were shown to a table and ordered a pint of Stella each before going up to the buffet and loading our plates up and then the meats began coming round - topside of beef, sausage (delicious!), steak (rump or sirloin can't remember which), pork and ham. Maybe it was because it was early, or maybe because we were away from the main groups of tables but we found it a bit hit or miss with the meats coming round and we often seemed to be missed out. Despite this both of us ate more than enough and we certainly didn't leave hungry, also on the plus side we never felt rushed at all - even ordering another half of Stella each after we had finished eating. Based on the service we had the meal was a little over-priced (£22.50 for the buffet, £15.50 for the vegitarian option and £4.40 for a pint) but it has definitely convinced me to go to Texas de Brazil next month.

We left the restaurant at around 6:15, had a quick look at the merchandise and then queued up to wait for the doors to open. The doors opened promptly at 6:30 and we made our way up to our seats to settle down ready for the show.

The show started just after 7:30 and was rather different to what we had experienced in Las Vegas. The tour is called the 'Megastar World Tour' and seemed to be far more of a 'rock concert' style show than the comedy+music show we had seen a few years previously. To be fair the Las Vegas and Orlando shows and their theatres are custom designed to fit each other whereas this show has to fit into a number of different venues so I suppose that is to be expected but we found this particular vversion to be VERY LOUD with a LOT of flashing lights and there was more emphasis on the music than the performance and 'personality' of the Blue Man. Most of my favourites were in there - Drumbone, Ready To Start and Your Attention among them, but Rods and Cones was missing as was the tissue paper ending. I still really enjoyed the show, Dad not so much and I think by the end he had had more than enough and was glad to get out.

I didn't get any more pictures before we were told to put our cameras away.

The show finished just after 9:00 and we were soon back in the tube station and Lady Luck was on our side because when we got to London Bridge we found the next train was due to depart just 10 minutes later. Just one hour after the show finishing we were back indoors.

All in all I'm glad I went and, if you don't mind loud music/flashing lights and are at all curious about the Blue Man experience they will be returning to the O2 in May - give them a try, you might just like it.

Always great to read one of your reports David and even this mini report was a very interesting read. ever so good you can get to the event, have dinner and get home so easily.

Even though we live in North London we are soooo lazy when not on holiday and never go anywhere "up town", although Kirsty dd 15 is always out and about in London.
