Blue lagoon dolphin swim- what time should we book?

Hi. We are going on our first cruise in January. It's a 4 day one. Are the waters in January too cold for this? We plan on booking this encounter on our own, but are not sure what time to choose for this. What time do we get to port and how long from then til we'd be on the island? Thanks so much for any advice!!!!

We did this in January 2014. Loved this excursion! We did the Dolphin encounter because our son was 3 at the time. We did a morning one around 9:30 I believe. We got off the ship and walked to the loading dock to get on the boat to Blue Lagoon Island. I think it takes roughly 30-40 mins to get there. Didn't seem that long with all the things to see along the way. Once we got to the Island we went right into the excursion. After you can walk around the dolphin habitat and board the boat back to the port or you can enjoy the rest of the island and take the later boat. My husband and older kids really enjoyed the inflatable water slides.

If they know you are on a Disney cruise, they won't let you book on your own. We went in January and they gave us wet suits to wear. We needed them. It was cold but not horrible. The earlier you can go, the better. That way you can enjoy the beach. You will have an awesome time!

If you book the 12:45pm excursion, can you enjoy the beach at Blue Lagoon before the dolphin swim experience?

We are going with some younger kids that won't join the dolphin swim, but will be going to the beach day. Can we leave the cruise ship together at 9ish? and come back together after the 12:45 dolphin swim?

We reserved the early morning one. They give you wet suits...the water is going to be cold pretty much all the time the way they made it sound. Don't worry, after the initial freezing cold wears off and you feel as though hypothermia has not actually kicked in, then its a fun time
We went in Feb and it is very cold water (yes with the wet suit on)
