We always stay on-site at Disney but this next year are debating on staying off site and are looking at Blue Heron. Has anyone stayed at this resort? We are a family of 6. Is there transportation to Disney? Or do you have to drive your own car? Is there stuff to do at the resort? Is it truly as close as they say?
We are also open to other off site resorts if anyone has an opinion!
Thanks!

We stayed there a few years ago and its really nice. Lots of room! Its more condos than a resort, so other than a pool, there really aren't many activities. There is a putt-putt course in front and you can rent jet skis next to the condos and use them in the lake but you do pay extra for those things. We had a car, so we didn't use their transportation, but there were people signing up for it when we checked-in. Its just down the road from downtown disney.

We own at Sheraton Vistana Resort, which is right across the road from Blue Heron. While I can't comment on Blue Heron (or its amenities), if you are open to other suggestions, we LOVE the Vistana and definitely recommend it. Villas are very large and spacious (2 bedroom villas feature two bathrooms, a full kitchen, a living room with a pull out sofa, a screened in balcony, and a washer and dryer). All sections of the resort have been redone in the past several years, with granite and ceramic tile and the interiors feel very new and fresh.

The resort itself offers 7 pools, 7 (I think) hot tubs, multiple playgrounds, a mini golf course, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, and a list of daily scheduled activitites from an onsite farmers market to bingo to tye-dye t-shirts to karaoke poolside. 3 of the pools are open to 1 am each day.

Location is awesome....its just around the corner from Downtown Disney. There are TONS of offsite restaurants within a short drive so dining out is very convenient. There are also a few onsite options for dining if you don't want to leave the property.

The resort does offer transportation to the parks, but I can't personally comment on that as we rented a vehicle. Staying offsite is a much BETTER experience, IMHO, with a vehicle at your disposal.

You can check out my August trip report (see the link in my signature) for lots of photos of the resort (our villa, plus the pools and playgrounds and other amenities). It is an absolutely beautiful property!
