Alright we are getting closer to our once in a lifetime trip to DL.:cool1: We haven't taken the girls back in two years! They are so excited!:thumbsup2 Back story really quick. We are not paying for our trip it was given to us by the Ellen show. They are paying for everything including food. I know since we aren't paying for it the price shouldn't matter. But I'm not sure. I'm used to pinny pinching on my DL vacations. Well on the food anyways! We bring a lot in with us and eat of site. We are a family of 7.
The menu looks awesome but I just don't know if that's the best use of our food allowance. I have decided that I am going to take my kids to the Round up BBQ. I was looking at the All ears menu and instantly thought OH my girls would love that!!
SO what are your thoughts is the food worthy of that price or is there some where better to get that special kind of dinner? I would like to take the girls to a "grown up dinner".

For the Blue bayou it is not just the food, but the space that you are in as well that makes it special.

We were just there over chirstmas and had an amazing meal, we went for lunch since we had a party of 19, everyone had a great meal, not one single issue at all.

Plus, the space you are in, if you can get close to water seating is really, really special. I would go, if it were me.

how/why did you get a trip from the ellen show? Just curious

Our family was on the show. My husband wrote an email trying to get them to help us with a school project (Flat Stanley) for our oldest daughter. They called us and talked to us about his email and that same day they asked us if we would fly down and be part of a web episode on large families and to bring Flat Stanley. (We are a family of 7)
I spoke to them for about an hour and my husband talked to them twice. So before I knew it all 7 of us were on our way to LA. My five daughters and I had never flown before. We were gone for a total of 24 hours. It was insane they took care of everything! They were so kind to us.
It was insane once we got there she surprised us and brought us on stage. It's up on youtube just goodle Arviso family on Ellen show. It was a shock and a blessing! We had so much fun! Now we are just looking forward to our trip.

I was thinking that too. That it's about the place as much as the food. Would you recommend any meal then another? I was thinking about Royal Street Seafood Jambalaya. Has anyone had this before?

thats awesome! I love large families! We are planning the blue bayou, I would make reservations if i were you :)

For my family it is definitely worth it. If someone were paying for me it would be even more of a must do. I totally understand you not wanting to take advantage of the generosity these people have offered you, but they chose to make the offer. Don't feel guilty. Enjoy it! Now if you want to cut the cost, you can consider splitting the meal between you and your husband. If you have picky eaters split another meal. If this is a trip of a lifetime, then accept the blessing and just enjoy! Congratulations and have a great time!!

i had the same ideas for dinner, roundup bbq and blue bayou. all the stuff i read only some people didnt like the food, but the atmosphere is outstanding. all in all, if you are afraid to try for dinner, lunch seems like a menu they can't mess up, but me and dw and dd looking forward to this meal

The food is decent but not fabulous, and quite overpriced for what it is. For our money, there are better choices (even other places in DL).

Now if they served wine and limited it to 21 and over, I'd consider it well worth the cost.

The food is hit or miss. Last time we went, my DH was in love with the chicken. I love just going. :)

Ahhh Thank you guys!:lovestruc I know I was also thinking lunch because my husband would love to have the Monte Cristo!! I think we will DO IT! It is a once in life time opportunity and they would want us to have a great time!:goodvibes
Can anyone say anything about the meals first hand? Likes dislikes ect.

My oldest son had the Jambalaya, and he loved it, which says alot since he is very picky about seafood, since he does not eat beef.

I had the short ribs, yum, and the potatoes where excellent. At our table it was a mixture between the short ribs, and chicken and steak and my niece had the monte cristo which she could not finish it was so much food, no one had a bad meal, they all liked it. The other nine people in our party, We where split up between two tables so I do not know what everyone else had, but I do know they all liked it, and thought it was good value for the money.

My husband had a steak, and commented that it was cooked to his liking, as well we had the gumbo for apps, and that was really good.

I personally think that the food combined with the space itself makes for a memorable experiance in my opinion.

What a great story! Love it.

I think your kids will love it. Eating INSIDE Pirates is such a cool experience, one you can't get at WDW ;)

I'm not a huge fan of the food, but you will find something for everyone. Since this is a special trip, I say don't miss it. Next time you can skip it.

Have a blast.

We were there in November and my husband had the Strip Loin and he gives it 8/10. I had the Salmon and I too give it an 8/10. However, the gumbo is amazing and definitely not to be missed. This time my son ate off the kid's menu but has had the gumbo before. He loves it and even though it's not available on the kid's menu, our waitress was nice enough to give him his own cup w/no charge. I highly recommend it. Enjoy!!

I didn't realize that they didn't serve wine. I thought Blue Bayou and Club 33 served alcohol. I am planning a romantic anniversary dinner without the kids in May and had planned to go there for the ambiance. Maybe I need to consider Napa Rose instead. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

No alchohol served inside Disneyland Park except at Club 33 which is a private club.

In DCA wine and beer is everywhere and the good stuff, at the bars.

I think for an adult dinner, it's either BB or WCT.

I think the BB food is great, and since it's paid for as part of your "gift", you should take advantage.

Totally worth it. In fact, DW & I have ressies to go there for our anniversary dinner next month. The ambiance is like nowhere else, and whatever other folks say, the food is quite good. When we went before, both DW & I had the surf & turf (steak and lobster tail). Perfection on all accounts, and I'm very picky about my steaks. Only available for dinner though; so if you go for lunch, you'll have to pick something else. Pity, because I suspect it may be the best thing on the menu.

TOTALLY agree with Bob!! I love the Surf and Turf :lovestruc:lovestruc! I can't think of any dinner places in DL that offer anything that compares. There are some good options in the resort (Napa Rose in particular), but they don't have the same atmosphere and you aren't in Disneyland!!

My daughter and I always opt for a dinner at BB and we always get the surf and turf. We've never yet been disappointed. Oh, and we always follow it up with creme brulee and coffee :thumbsup2

Congrads on the ELLEN show. The gumbo & jambalaya are always great, the other items are hit & miss. I have had some fantastic food and service at the Bayou as well as okay food and service. Dining in the Bayou for the first time is a treat either way, it is an experience. Taking the children will be something they will enjoy. Order a chocolate boat or two for desert, the children will love them. It is a large pirate ship made completely out of chocolate(sails and all). Hope they have them, they were out of them last time we were there. Arial's grotto for dinner is fantastic. Better food and the chocolate deserts simply are unbelievable. Best if you can get reservations for dinner and the WOC show. It is in california adventure of course. Congradulations...:cool1:
