Blue Bayou question

I have never eaten at Blue Bayou and want to on my next trip. I'll have a friend with me who has never been to Disneyland and I thought she'd enjoy it too. We will be there at the end of April for Dapper Day.

So my question is, should we go for dinner or lunch and would you do the MSEP dining package?

Thanks for sharing your opinions and helping me decide!

My family usually opts to have lunch at the Blue Bayou. We get an ADR for the first lunch time seating (usually 11:30 am) so that we can request a waterside table with the least amount of wait (usually most everyone with an 11:30 am reservation gets a waterside or near waterside table when requested). The menu at lunch is a little more limited, but if you're interested in the Monte Cristo sandwich, it's only on the lunch menu.

OH DONT MISS THIS!! Our family love BB: very good food. We have always chosen dinner option. Check in early and ask for a "table by the water": you may wait a bit longer but it is so wonderful to watch the Pirates boats go by. You almost forget where you are!! HOWEVER: we booked this in combination with "Paint the Night" parade and was a total disaster!!! We received our "vouchers" for our reserved seating after dinner. When we went to our select area, the cast members had no clue that there was a dinner package for the later parade: no special seating set up for anyone!!! About 20+ people who had paid for the reserved area were scattered in different areas!! The right and left hand weren't talking. It was the only "hic-up" during our trip. So many great places to watch the parade; may not be worth it. If I did this again, I would book an earlier dinner in order to make the first parade; not the later. OH HAVE FUN!!!

Thank you for the responses! I'm really looking forward to it! Planning to do a couple of splurges this trip since I'm just paying for me and not the whole family! Now to decide if there is any big advantage to having the parade dinner package.

The food was great! I second getting there early for a waterside table. The wait for waterside tables was an extra 45 minutes around 5:30. We were starving by then and didn't want to wait. So when you make your reservation budget that extra time in to your plans.

It took me a few visits before finally making a reservation and going. It was amazing!! We went for an early dinner and our meal was great and the atmosphere was perfect!! Have a great trip!!

Both lunch and dinner are great. It can depend on what you want to eat and how much time you are willing to invest in waiting for a waterfront table (if you really want one, not everyone does). If you want a Monte Cristo sandwich, then it has to be lunch since that item isn't on the BB dinner menu. If you really want waterfront seating (and while that is fun, the second row can be nice, too -- so don't feel like there's only one "good" row), the first seating for lunch is easiest. But we've had a pretty easy time with early dinner reservations, too. Either way, book a time that will allow you to enjoy the atmosphere and your meal. You don't want to feel rushed. With only two of you, I wouldn't book the MSEP package unless you really want to do it. If you don't have to be seated on the curb, you shouldn't have trouble fnding good spots in the second row for either the first or second (easier for this one) show. Will you be dressed up for Dapper Day? If so, definitely reserve a meal time that will allow you to relax and enjoy a nice meal while dressed fancy!

My kids and I love BB for the atmosphere. The food is good--though not great--and we always enjoy going there. When I was talking to DS8 about planning our Summer 2017 trip, he pointed out that it's a cooler experience to go at lunch because it's "nighttime" in BB and then you get to reemerge into the daylight afterwards. (Plus we always do first seating at lunch and get a table by the water.) I realized that he's right--it makes the whole experience more like a dream, which is awesome.

How would the Blue Bayou dining experience be impacted by POTC ride being refurbished?
I have always wanted to try Blue Bayou and have a reservation in February, but I just realized that POTC isn't open.

That's a really great question! I never even considered what that's like. I hope someone can answer this.

I've only been to BB once, but I thought the opposite. Every time someone opened the front door, we'd see glaring sunlight and it would destroy the illusion. Based on that experience, I had been planning to specifically go at night if we ever eat there again, but now I'm wondering if we just had a bad table.
