I'm making reservations for a thank-you dinner for my parents (they have gifted our family this trip). Do you think Blue Bayou or Steakhoue 55? They have never eaten at either and my Dad's favorite ride is POC. We will be eating at Carthay that week, if it makes any difference. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Blue Bayou is something that should be experienced in my opinion...especially a POTC fan. I enjoyed our meal there is April. Your family is having a nice, upscale dining experience at Carthay Circle, so I would choose BB over S55.
Sounds like a great "Thank You" :thumbsup2

Are your parents foodies? If so, I'd probably go with S55. If they aren't the super foody type, the atmosphere at BB can't be beat.

Ditto for Blue Bayou since POTC is your dad's favorite ride. The food is very good but it's the waterside table setting that will make the BB experience a more thoughtful 'thank you' to your parents. Steakhouse 55 is very nice and I'm sure the food is better, but it's still "just a" restaurant to me. :)

I would say the BB would be your best bet if Dad likes POTC. Waterside much better, are you thinking lunch or dinner?. The steak and lobster on the dinner menu is fabulous.

I'm thinking early dinner, they can head back into the parks and meet up with us after dinner if the kids are still resting during the break.

They are foodies, but I don't know if they even know SH55 exists, as they are not Disney foodies.

My vote is for BB if they've never been, especially if POC is your dads favorite ride. The atmosphere is truly the best! My wife and I always do BB and get the surf n turf which is really good!*

Blue Bayou gets my vote.. nothing like the ambiance sitting at that little table, listening to the crickets... and smelling that "special" smell..
Wish I was there now!

If quality matters, Steakhouse 55 wins hands down. Blue Bayou is okay, but nothing more.

However, if it is for ambiance, definitely go with Blue Bayou.

I've yet to eat at either but given the mixed reviews of BB, we changed my 40th b-day dinner in two weeks to Steakhouse 55. We may still do BB on our trip but if it ends up being a letdown, I'd rather it not be on a special occasion.

I agree with what was said - Steakhouse 55 is more elegant and higher quality, but if you have never been to BB and he is a fan, I think he would enjoy that more, plus, no need to leave the parks and trek over to DLH. Truth be told, you can get a nice steak at a place with white linens anywhere. :thumbsup2

I realize my Dis name will give away my vote, however in an attempt to give an unbiased opinion...I have not eaten at SH55, however have eaten at Napa Rose (at the Chef's Counter) which is usually rated a little higher than SH55, and was excellent. My dinner at BB during the same trip was just as good, I kid you not, and that did surprise me a little. To echo BlackJackDelta's review...my wife and I both had the steak and lobster and they were fabulous! Ditto on the waterside being a must (and well worth the wait to get it).

Reviews of food quality/preference will always be mixed (whether it's BB or SH55), however there's no disputing the dining experience you get being inside the ride having a great meal.pirate:

Thanks everyone! I did go with BB. We have some wonderful steakhouses here in Mpls, so I think a little ambiance will go a long way for this dinner. :goodvibes

My reservations are for 5pm, do you guys know what time they should be there to get a waterside table?

I do not remember for sure but if dinner starts at 1630 there may not be a table available for another 45-90 minutes. Just can not remember if it is 1630 or 1700...in any case we get there 15 minutes early no matter what.

Sounds great, thanks Jack! We'll be in the parks at the same time maybe I'll see you around. :cool2:

Totally agree with this part in bold! It's also how I feel about Napa Rose. It's excellent, but it could be anywhere. I can get that kind of dining experience almost anywhere I go. What I can't get elsewhere is dining inside the Pirate ride!

I've read some recent posts that really trashed BB's food, but I've never had a bad Surf and Turf there! It is always outstanding, and I find it much more fun to eat that meal waterside in BB than to have the chef's counter wine pairing in Napa Rose. I really don't know how BB is getting such a hate following lately. I've eaten there about 8-10 times in the last 5 years and did see a decline in quality in certain things for a while but the surf & turf remained outstanding as usual and other things that weren't as good (while the kitchen was being redone) are back to being good again. I don't find the prices as horrendous as others do considering the fact that you're in a resort and ALL food prices are higher. Naturally you're going to pay more for a nice sit-down restaurant with full service and more to the meal than just an entree.

Steakhouse 55 is delightful and fun, but I think BB is the perfect choice and I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much. If you're staying at DLH, do try SH55 for breakfast...it's an excellent value, or was last time I went!

Honestly, I would check in 30 minutes early. Especially to request a waterside table. :) I'm glad as heck that you booked this at BB, I think that it will be a great treat! :)

I've always enjoyed eating at BB too. The feeling of being in there is always good and to be honest the only thing I didn't really like were the ribs, I just didn't like the taste of them, they were cooked to perfection, I just didn't like the sauce.
