Blue Bayou dinner with picky vegetarian?

I'm considering a Paint the Night dining package for a short upcoming trip to DLR. It's my first visit and seeing Paint the Night is a priority! I thought the Blue Bayou viewing area seemed better for possibly viewing fireworks after, but then I looked at the menu...

My traveling companion is vegetarian and she dislikes mushrooms, so the portabella mushroom dish is out. Would they let her choose something from the kids meal, or would we be SOL?

Is this dining package really necessary and/or is Blue Bayou really all that special that I need to do it on my first visit to Disneyland? Or should I save it for another trip (which will likely happen in the next 2 years) when I'm traveling with my husband?

Thanks in advance for your words of DL wisdom!!

Does she not eat any seafood? Asking because I know some vegetarians will eat fish and dairy.

I just ate at Blue Bayou two weeks ago. My server told me the dining packages almost never sell out...they have 200 tickets each night and the night I went, only 75 were sold! Based on that information, you could make a reservation to the restaurant and then possibly add the package when you check in if you feel it's the right option for you.

I liked the convenience of the dining package. I was only in Disneyland for the day and I didn't want to spend two hours holding a spot for Paint the Night, which was phenomenal. It was worth it to me (I was traveling solo) to only have to show up 15 minutes beforehand. Not sure I could justify the expense for my entire family, though.

I had the Surf and Turf and it was excellent. If your friend eats fish, perhaps you could both order the Surf and Turf and swap your lobster with your traveling companion's steak? I didn't pay attention to the other menu options so I can't opine on those

We just did this last Friday. My wife hates mushrooms, and doesn't get adventurous with vegetarian food. They made her an adult portion of the pasta without any issues.

YAY. Ok, I needed to hear this.
How was your experience with the restaurant/parade view, btw? Do you think the dining package is worth it?

How about the Monte Cristo?
Served only during lunch time. Hold the turkey and ham. Or see about ordering an adult serving of the mac n cheese. That may be allowed, seeing the very slim dining options for vegetarians or vegans.

If you are planning on eating at BB anyway, I think the parade dining is totally worth it. It's not that much more than the regular menu (and it includes a drink!). For us, the added expense was definitely worth the time saved to stake out a curb seat. I was really pleased with our view of the parade, and the fireworks view is good, too.

We loved it! There was a bit of a kerfluffle- the tickets tell you to get there at 7:30, and a bunch of people came earlier to grab their spot on the curb, and was upset when they had to move. We got there at 7:40, there was plenty of room. They don't let anyone into the area even after the parade starts, so we had a great view, without people pushing and shoving into us. and then after the parade we went right out into main street for the fireworks.

I personally don't think that you need a package to see the parade. For 60 years people have enjoyed watching parades without needing a package. This is the first year disney has offered a package and the only reason why they are offering this it is because fantasmic is closed this year. They need to make up their usual income from the fantasmic packages, so they are now offering parade seating because they know people will pay to do so. As a mushroom hating vegetarian I can relate. I think that at such a high price point, I would be disappointed to pay so much to receive just a doubled kids portion of something. It's just not worth it. Save your money and eat there with your DH when you would both really appreciate/enjoy the meal.

Was this people with the dining package that had to move? I thought people have been saying they get there before the 30 mins to get the curb spot.

Yes, the dining package people had to move. Basically they were all lined up on the curb, and at 7:30, everyone had to get up and move inside the reserved area. Pretty much everyone was able to get a curb spot that had waited for one, but there were two trash cans and I guess it messed up the order of things so one family didn't get to sit on the curb and were pretty pissed about it. FWIW, we got there late, and just sat behind the people on the curb, no one asked us to stand.

We went to the Blue Bayou for the Fantasmic! package just before it closed. I am a vegetarian and I don't like mushrooms, either. Our server gladly offered us a delicious pasta primavera dish instead. :)

I want to dine at BB with wife and three kids. The parade reserved area is not a priority for us. Should we still get the package? I read in another post that the cost is cheaper than ordering a la carte, especially if getting expensive items like Surf & Turf. Thoughts?

My adult Paint the Night package meal for 1 (I chose the Surf & Turf) was $66 with tax and without tip for a 3 course meal. Coming from the NY area, I did not think that was unreasonable. I ordered the salad, S&T, and the lemon creme brulee plus I got unlimited non-alcoholic beverages.I felt it was worth it. I loved the ambiance, meal quality and service was excellent and I loved not having to park my butt on a curb for two hours waiting for the parade to start.

Hope that helps!

Thank you!
I think I'll do the reservation at BB without the package. Looking at the menu, we can save considerable money that way (And the the kids will likely want dessert elsewhere). We have never had a problem finding a nice parade spot at WDW without camping out for a long time. Hopefully DL is not that much different on a Tuesday.

It's fine to order regular bb menu. You can change to PTN while there if you want. If you're at DL on Monday take a look at the crowds for the parade and then decide.

Is there a Paint The Night menu anywhere? I see the regular menu at the DL.GO site, but neither the starters nor dessert are listed.

Thanks.
