BLT vs BCV

My wife and I have decided to buy DVC. We are trying to decide on BLT or BCV. We like each of these for different reasons. Does anyone have any input to sway me a particular way?

We own at BLT. We have stayed at both BLT and BC. We like them both.
BLT-walk to Mk, monorail to Poly and GF for dinners and shopping, walk to MK to take a bus to any other resort -pool is a little small

BC-pool is great for older kids and like how close it is to EPCOT and HS,the boardwalk to nice to walk around

I like BLT for transportation/proximity and BC for theme and pool

I don't know what BCV is selling for these days, but its contract expires in 2042. So you are buying 28 years of usage. I think BLT doesn't expire until 2062 or so, right?

Unless BCV is a LOT cheaper than BLT, I'd have to go for the additional 20 years of use.

BC is selling in and around the same price as BLT on the resale market, with both resorts hovering right around $100/point, give or take depending on # of points, loaded vs stripped, etc.

Based on the fact that BLT has an additional 20 years of ownership AND the fact that BLT annual dues are about 20% less than BC, this becomes a no-brainer if both resorts are a toss up.

If you absolutely love BC and HAVE to stay there, then I would recommend buying where you love to stay regardless of price / contract duration. If you love both resorts equally and this truly is a toss-up, BLT wins by a landside based on these two factors alone.

I don't think they are the same price resale....check the boards again....and yes BLT has a longer term, but those dues have been rising steadily.

Yeah they are close enough. I see BC sales in the mid to high 90's and BLT sales in the mid 90's to mid 100's. There is enough of an overlap to call it the same.

We own at both BLT and BCV. Been checking the resale sites and they do both seem like they are priced pretty much the same. BLT does have the longer end date which gives it the edge in my mind. Yes the MFs have gone up but BLT still, for the moment, has the lowest dues on property.

I guess it comes down to where you really want to stay.

Wow, I guess I haven't looked recently, I bought BCV for $83 three years ago (one 100 and one 75), back then BLT was $110. I see the gap has really closed! I've never seen BLT under $99 (I watch for my perfect add on)...

I checked the boards (actually, I did so before posting), but looked again to get specifics for you:

Looking at The Timeshare Store's current inventory as of today, here's the breakdown:

  • BLT Average: $104/point
  • BC Average: $97/point

Again, for the nominal price difference, 20 years of additional contract length and cheaper maintenance fees, BLT would be my choice. But as mentioned, if being able to stay at BC is a priority, then the advice of "Buy where you want to stay" takes precedence.

Agreed :thumbsup2

BC has really seemed to hold its value very well. I think the fact that it is a smaller resort in a very desirable location with the best pool on property has helped it gain value over time (a little more so than most of the other resorts).

I purchased VWL a little over 3 years ago at $50/point, and see it's average selling price is now $83/point. 66% increase over a three year period isn't too shabby! Had I known this, I would have bought a few extra contracts just to sell :)

Sounds like BLT is the way to go. The extra years are worth the small price difference. I have found that I can usually book BCV at 7 months but I have a hard time with BLT in a standard view room at 7 months. They are both awesome resorts so can't really go wrong with either.

As noted earlier, it really depends on where you want to stay. It gets harder and harder every year to book BCV at 7 month window. Forget it completely during food & wine. We own at BCV and love the resort including the pool. We love the closeness to Epcot and the boardwalk area in general. We stayed at BLT and liked the walk to magic kingdom, but did not like all the congestion at the CR which you end up going through a lot. We also did not enjoy the pool area - very small.

My family was making this exact same decision the past couple months.

We own at VWL currently and we needed to add on. We love VWL but wanted another place so we'd have 11 month windows at two resorts.

We choose BLT. The main reasons were:

1) Longer time to expiration. 20 more years of usage. In 15 years I expect BLT to be worth a lot more than BCV. We already own an expiring 2042 contract so we didn't want to buy another

2) more pleasant transportation options. BLT gives you walking or monorail to MK and monorail to Epcot, bus to AK and HS. BCV gives you walking to Epcot, boat to HS and bus to MK and AK. Personally I hate buses and I've read plenty on this board about how poor the Swan/Dolphin/BW/BC/YC bus service is. Both BCV and BLT are convenient/pleasant to get to Epcot. BCV gives a better experience to HS and BLT gives a better experience to MK. MK is our primary park so I value the easy travel to MK much higher than the easy travel to HS.

3) 2 Bathrooms in a 1 BR, sleeper chair. We are a family of four with a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy. We only stay in 1 BRs so we were comparing 1 BR layout and amenities between resorts. BLT has a great layout for it's 1BR. I think it's 10% larger than BCV's 1 BR. In 10 years I'm thinking that second bathroom, sleeper chair (so the kids won't have to sleep together) and extra space will be a "must have" more than a "nice to have"

Now, we'll miss not being able to go to SAB. But we could just shell out the cash and go to a water park for one of the days of our trip to get our "awesome water experience".
